new to the board....
We have had unprotected sex for 12 months now however for the first 6 months we were doing the long distance thing - just weekend visits. It has now been 6 months ?and no pregnancy ?:(
Any words of advice? i am going to schedule a doctors appt asap. What should I ask? Should we start by getting tested to see if we are fertile? New to this so sorry if my questions sound dumb.....
thank you!!!!?
Re: when to worry???
Tell your OBGYN exactly how long you've been trying and ask him/her to start running tests. My OBGYN was able to run a sperm analysis test as well as bloodwork on me (for various hormones, like LH, FSH, E2, P4), and it cost a lot less than if we had to be referred to a specialist to run those tests.
If it all comes back normal and you still dont get PG, then you might want to ask your OBGYN for a referral to a specialist.
Good luck.

TTC #2 since 2011. Dx: Endometriosis and hypothyroidism. 2 FETs in 2012, BFP 6/12 but m/c @ 7 weeks. IVF #2 06/13. DD #2 born March 2014 (40w1d).
Given that you've only had 6 nonths where you could "try" all the time, I wouldn't worry yet. There is no need to jump to the RE stage of the game at this point, just a meeting with your dr. I would also recommend Taking Charge of Your Fertility to help learn more about your body.
Honestly though, this may be a better question for TTC 12+ months or BOTB. This board is for women who have disagnosed infertility, many of whom have been trying for long periods of time under an RE's care.
Good luck to you! I hope you never have to end up here
.
ditto previous posts. however, i would say if your insurance will cover it, an RE will be able to do more with you than an OB/GYN if your diagnosis warrants more advanced treatments (injects, IUI, IVF. . . ). Definitely ask your OB/GYN about how they handle infertility, how advanced they will go, and how they will monitor you (REs tend to monitor A LOT more closely than most ob/gyn) and if they don't seem worried, ask for a referral. if you do have an IF issue, you don't want to waste any more time not knowing what it is.
Good Luck
