NTTTCR: Camera recs?

I lost my camera at my friend's wedding last weekend (it's now swimming with the fishes in the carribean) so now it's time to get a new one.  I was wondering what type of camera do you have? What would you recommend?  What do you like/not like about it? My last camera was a Kodak 12 mp with a recahargable battery built in (no AAs) which I really liked.  TIA!!!

  • I have a DSLR and absolutely love it.  I have the Nikon D60 and a few extra lenses that do different things.  If you are looking for something that is a bit nicer than a point and shoot, I would look into DSLRs,  I knew that I wanted something that would take wonderful pictures when we finally have kids and am so glad that DH and I made the purchase!

  • I am a die-hard Canon enthusiast.

I have a Canon D300 (it's an SLR) from 2005, a Canon Powershot A570IS from 2007, and a Canon SD880IS from 2009. The last two are Point-and-shoots.. the A-series is more boxy but has a good grip if you're clumsy with cameras, whereas the SD-series is sleeker and fits in your pocket.

I definitely recommend Image Stabiliz. (denoted by "IS" after the model number for Canon series) as it really reduces the shake!

  • We have a Canon Digital Rebel XSi, but that's in the $700-800 range for just the body, plus extra for lenses.  Before that we had one of the higher Canon PowerShots and it was good.  I second the image stabilization, it's awesome for getting less blur to pictures.  My husband does amateur photography and loves his Canons.

  • I have a Nikon D40X for my good camera and for my everyday camera I have a Kodak Easyshare.  I used to have the Canon Digital Elf and LOVED it.

  • I'm a Canon girl too.  Currently I have the PowerShot SD600 and I'm thinking about getting one of the SLRs.  I bought the waterproof case for the SD600 and I love that I can take great underwater and in-water pics with my digital camera, instead of a disposable.

  • I got the Nikon D60 a few months ago and LOVE it!  I don't know much about manual settings right now, but the pictures look good on the automatic setting I have it on.
