Babies: 0 - 3 Months

I feel like I am doing something wrong according to DH's family.

My LO hasn't slept more then 2 hours at a time since he has been home. I have tried the swing, swaddling, his bed, my bed, his car seat, and the bouncer. No luck with more then 2 hours.?

So DH tells his family about this yesterday and they act like we were doing something wrong.

How many hours at a time did your 3 almost 4 week old sleep???

Re: I feel like I am doing something wrong according to DH's family.

  • I wouldn't worry.  Jacob rarely slept more than 2-3 hours at the time when he was that old.  It all happened really fast, around his 6 week growth spurt he started sleeping 4 hours at a time, then went to 6, then to 8 within days.

  • You are not doing anything wrong!!! Newborns are not meant to sleep more than 2 hours at a time. He will sleep longer when he is ready!
  • That could go on for another month.  Don't worry about what they're saying, you're not doing anything wrong!  Your LO will sleep longer when your LO is ready!
  • Everyone is an expert. My family acted like I was abusing my child due to her gassiness. I had to print articles from the internet and my doc stating that gas is normal in babies, and pretty cute.

  • You girls make me feel so much better. My DH's family is the same way. My baby will be a week old @ 12:53am. DH's dad tells my SIL that we were "having problems" with the baby since he doesn't seem to want to sleep at all at night and he wants to eat a lot!

  • Your in laws likely don't remember what very new babies are like. Your LO is behaving like a typical newborn!
  • He's hungry!! Of course he'll wake up when he's hungry... you are doing nothing wrong!!

  • DS was awake more back then than he is now I think. lol

Don't worry...I don't think you can do anything wrong with baby's sleep.  They're going to sleep whenever and wherever they want to.
