We had our appointment with the perinatologist yesterday and both H and I feel reassured. He said that for him, seeing a two-vessel cord was relatively common--he's seen 3 women with them this month--and over his 15 years in practice, there's only been one time that there was a bad outcome. He showed us our baby's heart, which he said was "perfect," and said her kidneys are fine, too. He also told us that our having an amnio was a good thing because now we know there are no chromosome issues, either (he even gave us a picture of her chromosomes!).
Not only that, but he didn't seem hugely concerned about having to induce--I've gotten used to that idea by now, but it's nice to know that it's not a definite.
I told him we'd Google'd it to death and he was like, ah, and you saw that the baby could have this, this, this, this and this...for some reason it was reassuring to hear that he knew what was out there information-wise!
Anyhow, he made it sound way less scary than my OB did (though I guess I can't really judge b/c I was too floored when OB told us last week to have any perspective), so we feel a whole lot better. Phew!
PS-I posted the other day about H liking a name that means "unlucky." When we asked the doc why the two-vessel cord happens, he said that since ours is isolated, it's just bad luck. We are now kinda thinking that cute name would be the perfect fit!
