How long did you wait to baptize

Im trying to decide when to do it.

Re: How long did you wait to baptize

  • When your ready. It depends on the faith also

  • We Baptised DS at 4 weeks and DD at 11 weeks.

I like to do it ASAP, but I had to wait until Godparents could come in town and until the Church had an opening.

  • We did it when she was 7 weeks old. But a friend of ours (my DH is their godfather) just did theirs when they're daughter was 6 months old.
  • We would have done it when we were visiting family when DS was 2 months old, but his godparents were out of town so we couldn't.  You can do it whenever you want - some religions don't even believe in doing it until the child can understand what it means and choose it for himself.
  • Is it custom in your denomination to baptize babies? I know that Methodists and Catholics do...

I am doing a child dedication instead of baptism. I'm dedicating my baby and his future to God and that as his mother I will uphold a Christian environment for him and teach him the Word of God. When he decides to devote his life to God and asks to be saved, then he will be baptised.

It all depends on your belief and denomination.

  • Well he was born June 25th, and we're baptizing on November 1st...so that would make him just over 4 months.

    This.

My dd was just baptized. She is 11 years old....

  • 5 months, 1 day.
3/22/09 - Lily Grace, born at 33 weeks, 2 days
    9/12/14 - M/C @ 7 weeks, 1 day (ectopic)

  • DS will be 7 1/2 months when he gets baptized.  we had to wait until all of the close family could make it to town.
    DS - June 2009
    DD - February 2011
  • DD was 3 months old.  I didn't know we had to take a baptism class first and they only offered it once a month so I had to wait until after that.

I would like to do DS in september so he will be between 1 and 2 months.

  • This is something I wanted done sooner rather than later for my own peace of mind.  DS was born March 11, and we had him baptized on April 25.
