I haven't a clue. It took the same amount of prep time for me, and longer to cook. And it tasted like frozen lasagna. But I think my crockpot is set to crap instead of high. Nothing I've made in it tastes good.
yeah mine was very mushy. Not good at all. I wouldn't make it again but was wondering why it is seen as a time saver? Maybe if you didn't still have to brown the meat but you do!
It just occurred to me - maybe it can be set on low to cook all day or something so you can just eat when you come home like a pot roast or something???
Kitty that's what I did. It turned out gross but I guess that is an advantage. It is ready when you get home instead of an hour later (assuming you premade the traditional lasagna)
All the recipes I've seen for crockpot lasagna have simplified ingredients, like jarred sauce, etc, so maybe that's how? I didn't care for it either. My crockpot was a PITA to clean after I made it too.
I have a recipe for "lasagna" that uses penne noodles that get layered into a baking dish with cheeses and italian sausage. Its not as good as real lasagna, but its reminiscent of it and its easy.
I made it this week, and I have to tell you, it's definitely faster re: prep time. It turned out great, though I'd add some stock to the pot while cooking it next time. I think I'll definitely make it again.

yup, but after the crockpot timer went off, I put more cheese on top with a little more sauce and put it in the oven for 20 minutes or so, just because I like a crispy top.

Re: NPR: how is crockpot lasagna any faster
That sounds like a total PITA (we all know my love for the cockpot)
Wouldn't it be like soup?

and even my food-snob, anti-crockpot, anti-prepared food, chef DH said it was "pretty good, surprisingly"
