Why is Thomas the train so expensive?

$20 for one small train?  Really?  What a scam that whole Thoms thing is!!!  My ds loves Thomas but I am just shocked at how much it costs.  I know I can buy things cheaper on ebay and craig's list - but it's still expensive...for plastic!!!  Am I missing something here?  It's not like they're old Lionel trains that are collector's items.

Because kids are so damn brand loyal! 

 Although I must confess that I came to love Thomas over my years of babysitting.  I hope DD likes trains.

Most of the trains are actually wooden. My ds has an obsession with "choo choo's". Barnes N Noble usually has them on sale. Plus, if you are a member, you get an additional % off.

Sure they're cute but totally overpriced in my book. When I buy DS strain set, I'll probably get the cute one from Ikea. I think it's $20 for a whole set!
