For those that have had a vaginal delivery and a c-section...

which one was an easier recovery?

I had a c-section and this recovery is hell, but the post below got me thinking...at least I can still wipe my butt without pain. I don't know which would be worse...?

  • I'm assuming you mean my post? :) I can wipe my butt no problems :) In fact, I was terrified to poop afterward, but it was not big deal and continues to be no different.  I have been shocked at how easy and pain free my recover has been, even with a 2nd degree tear.

  • I've had both.  The recovery from the vaginal delivery was SO much easier!!!

Yes, I was talking about your post. It made me hurt to read it. I was just wondering how long after a vag birth you are in pain...or if there is any pain.?

haha it's really not that bad.  I was pretty scared of recovery, but *knocks on wood* it's been a breeze.  I took Motrin in the hospital, but hardly even needed that.  I was shocked. The cleaning bottle, etc. is more just to keep everything clean and not irritated from wiping, etc., not b/c of pain - at least for me :)

  • Vaginal recovery was a lot easier than c-section recovery. But I delivered a 22 week baby vaginally, so if she had been full term, it might have been tougher? I also had preeclampsia and was very swollen and drugged, so maybe it wasn't easier. All I remember is I was able to get up like an hour or two after delievering vaginally. I wasn't able to get up from the c-section until 24 hours later and it hurt like hell. My DH had to do all the diaper changes the first 24 hours and I really felt like I missed out of those first 24 hours of DS's life with the c-section. Also I was still taking pain pills well into 2 weeks past delivery for the c-section. I'm really hoping to do a vbac next time around.

  • I haven't had both since I only have one child...however, my sister who had 2 c-sections saw how I was getting around and how much assistance I needed and she was thanking her lucky stars that she didn't have to go through the pain.  I had a 3rd degree tear....it felt like by butt was cemented to the bed.  I'm not saying it's worse by any means...just sharing what she said.  She did seem to be getting around better than what I was after delivery.  Maybe it was how I tore?
