Anyone part of a herd share?

Thinking of joining a herd share co-op for raw milk, raw butter and meat. Anyone participate? Can you give me some details about the cost and logistics of yours?

Re: Anyone part of a herd share?

  • We belong to a meat CSA so we get meat & eggs but I haven't found a dairy one yet.

  • We are looking at one here. Its the 2nd one I've looked at, so I haven't fully taken the plunge and given them a call to find out the details yet. But the last one I checked into, you paid a certain amount per year (I think it was $50) and then you got x number of gallons per week (they had goats and cows) at whatever the price was per gallon. (I think it was about $6)

The one I'm looking at now I think is fairly similar, but you actually do your own milking.

Do you use localharvest? Its a great resource for finding these sorts of things in your area.
