Infertility

getting closer to IVF starting....

and I have a question...

I'm not afraid of pain... i don't mind IVs at all, childbirth does not scare me.

But I hate shots.

Can someone give me a heads up on how much pain I'm in for - or do they not hurt too badly?

It's crazy that THIS is what i'm afraid of.

  • They really aren't bad at all. I promise! It is more mental than anything else. You will be fine after you get over the hurdle of the first one. Good luck!!!

  • Ha.  I'm not worried about the shots or the child birth, but I'm worried about the egg retrevial.

I think we will both do just fine and maybe we shouldn't think about it so much and just do it. Smile

  • I was a huge needle phob before IVF..I only had blood taken maybe 3 times before hand and I can assure you I was very surprised how easy it was and I did all my own shots! Menopur burned a little but if I took my time it was not too bad. Also I learned that if I left the needle in there for a few seconds after I was done injecting I did not bruise. You will do great! Good luck!
  • They really aren't that bad at all... like a previous poster mentioned, they are more mental than anything! I personally found it easier to give myself the shots, rather than give that control to someone else (my DH)... my MIL gave me one shot (she's a retired nurse), just to give the right side of my bum a break, but never again! I was so nervous the entire time, and I swear it hurt worse when she did it!

    Good Luck!

Seriously - how screwed up am I? I AM a nurse  and i'm begging DH to do them for me.

  • The shots don't really hurt.  Everyone once in awhile one would sting a bit but it was momentary.  I think the blood draws for all the monitoring you have done with IVF hurt more than the shots.  Make sure for any refrigerated meds that you let them sit out at room temp for 20 minutes prior to injecting!  That'll decrease any potential stinging/burning.  Good luck!

  • Really the shots weren't bad for my IUI cycles (and it's pretty similar). All of the ones I did in my tummy were cake. The trigger went in my butt and it was sore but not bad. I'm doing suppositories instead of PIO so I'm not sure what that feels like. Good luck!!!!
