I need some vibes please..

Okay, so I have been trying to get ready to go back to school this semester to start the Elementary Education program that I worked my butt off to get into in the spring. Well, I had orientation last week and everything seemed good until last week when they tell me I have no money for my tuition there and it could take two weeks for them to process my information for a loan/financial aid. I normally get enough to cover my tuition, so I wasn't worried about it. Well, it's been a week. I waited on hold for 18 minutes last Friday morning only to have a rude man answer the phone who's English skills were lacking. He told me what to send in by fax, I sent it in, and sent it in, and kept sending it in. Finally Wednesday they got in, and said it could still be two weeks before they looked at it. My mom and I are going down there today (not exactly a place you want to go by yourself, the main campus) and maybe we can work it out. If we don't get it worked out, that's one more year I'll be in school, and that's one more year I'll be baby-less if Josh has anything to do with it. So I've had a hard time accepting that, but just send some vibes my way if you have any to spare that whatever's best will happen.

Thanks girls!

  • I really hope you get it worked out.

If you lived closer, I'd offer to go down with you and help today. :) I'm in just the right kind of mood for it!

While I get your vent and frustration the whole 'English skills were lacking' comment, IMO, was not necessary...just sayin'

  • Lot's of vibes that it works out for you Tara.
  • ugh!  You must be beyond frustrated!  I know I would be... I'm sending all the vibes in the world that things work out the way they're supposed to - actually I sent you an email yesterday when I saw your FB status (I'm guessing it had to do with this...).  Always thinkin' about you! xoxoxo

Cut her some slack - she's frustrated.  I'd be b!tching about that too.

  • Hopefully it all works out!  Can you get a bank loan maybe to bridge the gap until your student loan money comes through?
  • vibes for you tara. i hope you get it all worked out. i know you have got to be frustrated.

    Seriously?? Not even necessary!

It has nothing to do with the issue of financing. Now, if she didn't get the proper paper work submitted because of a language barrier I'd get it. Saying he's rude? Fine! But making snide commentary about someone lacking in English skills? *eye roll*

I get that you are FB friends and all that but the comment only serves to make her sound immature.

  • I just thought she was saying that it added to her frustration that she couldn't communicate with the person who was supposed to be helping her out.

here, here - that's exactly what she was saying.

And what the heck does FB friends have to do with it?

I deal with this BS all the time.  My in laws who have been here 35 YEARS (who've lived more life here than in Greece) speak hardly a lick of English.  It's frustrating.  Period.  And I speak Greek.  And it's STILL frustrating.

I could say so much on this topic but I'll restrain myself.

I'd agree though that there is a HUGE difference between someone speaking with an accent vs. making a decided effort to not speak the language in the country in which they live. But many people I encounter on a daily basis do speak with accents and unless it impedes their ability to do their jobs or I need a translator I don't find it particularly offensive. I try to have patience with the matter...

Regardless, Tara going into further detail did shed more light on her overall experience and I'm glad her issue is resolved.
