Baby Names

Need a classic girls name....

I need ideas....

DS is Thomas (Tommy) so I need something that will match....I want a classic name that is not too common, but common enough where people can spell it and pronounce it. My name is Melanie and I have always loved it for that reason, very few of us around but not so out there that people haven't heard it.

So are having a girl this time, need classic girl names please! Thanks!

  • Do a search of Catholic names or Saints names.  They're all fairly classic, even if you're not looking for Cath names.

My own suggestions:  Amelia, Matilda or Gretchen.

  • I wanted a classic girls name, as in style right now, but not something that was common or difficult to pronounce or spell. DD's name is Matilda. When I checked the popularity rankings, it was last 1/1000 in the 1940s but fell off the scale after that (1/1000 was as low as the scale went). We call her Tillie and I love it!

  • Saw the name Grace in a post above and thought wow that is perfect.  Thomas and Grace sound so smooth and nice together.HTH.

  • I don't know if it's "classic' But I have always liked my name " Holly" for the same reason that you liked yours - not too many of us, but not out there either - don't know if it is considered dated at all right now, but I don't think it is - a few celebs have it & it is always a girl name staple in Britian. Anyway - if you don't like my name, I can pitch my daughters' - all classic!

Audrey Catherine, Claire Alexandra, Lila Elizabeth

  • I've recently fallen in love with the name Georgia!! I'm naming my baby boy due in October Thomas! I've already got an Anna-Kate- kind of a modern twist on two classic names! :) Good luck!!
