Beatle-esque Boy Names...

In my desperate search for boy names that do not either annoy the daylights out of me or remind me of people I would rather not name my children after, I began to consider names inspired by art, music, & science. Being a bit of a Beatles nut, I'm strongly considering Lennon or Harrison as the first name if my child turns out to be a boy. I'm no longer concerned about the kid being called Lenny or Harry (I won't permit it if I can help it) and I don't see a problem with toddlers mistaking Lennon for Lenin. Also, I really don't care whether or not Harrison is perceived as coming from Harrison Ford instead of George Harrison - I mean, what little boy wouldn't love to be named after Han Solo or Indiana Jones?

I would love some feedback on these options, and possible middle name suggestions.  Thanks so much!

Re: Beatle-esque Boy Names...

  • I have family members with the last name of Ford, they joked around naming their son Harrison. Turns out they should have he is the biggest Star Wars freak.

That being said I like Harrison, Lennon is nms. Just make sure the name you use is something you will like forever.

  • I like Harrison better but I don't see anything wrong with either name.

  • I think Lennon and Harrison are fine.  In my old age I've really grown to appreciate George Harrison, so that would be my vote.  But if you want to branch out a bit you can consider names in Beatles songs.  I only wanted to name ds Jude, but DH didn't like it. We agreed on Judah, which now I love, but I still have a soft spot for Jude.  There's also Desmond from Obladi-Oblada.  There are a lot more girl names in Beatles songs (my dd is Sadie) but if you think through all your lyrics you might be able to come up with a few more boy names.

Maybe also consider names of their kids.  Like Julian or Sean (Lennon).

  • What about Jude?

I like Harrison better than Lennon, but both are great  :)

  • I like Harrison. It can pay tribute to the Beatles but it won't be automatically assumed.

Unfortunately Jude & Desmond are out - I knew some awesome people with those names, and I want my associations with those names to remain with those individuals, as I no longer have contact with either. I also considered Julian & Sean - I do like both, though I would have to spell Sean as Shawn (personal preference).

I do like Sadie, but I'm pretty set on my girl name, so unless I have another kid at some point, I won't really get an opportunity to sort though most of the Beatle-y girl names. I did actually consider Molly, but I decided against it as I have the Molly doll from the American Girls collection, because the doll looks EXACTLY like me when I was little, and it would be a little creepy to name my kid after a doll I had growing up.

As for other boy names in the lyrics, Dr. Robert is out, as that's my ex of 6.5 years.

  • I LOVE the Beatles. Here are some other Beatles-related suggestions. (DH is too conservative for that sort of thing.)

Hamish (he played with Paul McCartney's band for a long time, may still)

    Alistair (same, Paul McC's band)

    Jude

    Julian

    Martin (George, the producer)

    Desmond

    Stuart (Sutcliffe)

    Klaus (Voorman)

    Peter, or Blake

    Neil (Aspinall)

    Maxwell (Silver Hammer)

    Asher (Jane)

There are of course lots of girl options:

    Clarabella (my favorite)

    Prudence

    Eleanor

    Julia

    Molly

    Penny, or Lane

    Sally

    Rita

    Martha

    Sadie

    Abbey

I could go on and on and on!

Plus the real Dr. Robert was very sketchy so I'd avoid that anyway.

  • lol I forgot about Maxwell - my mom would get a kick out of that, she LOVES that song. I think if Hubby doesn't like Lennon or Harrison I'll try Max next - there are many Max characters I like - Max Fisher in Rushmore, Max in Where the Wild Things Are, Max from A Goofy Movie (ok not the best example).

I also used to be involved in the Los Angeles lindy hop/swing scene, and there's a weekly dance venue in Hollywood on Sunset called Maxwell's at The Argyle (it's a hotel), and Maxwell himself was a pretty suave dude.

  • Yes DesmondandMollyJones approves.

I am also a Beatles fan and a fan of Yorkies :-)  I like Lennon.

  • Being a huge Beatles fan myself, both Jude and Lennon were two of my top choices if I had a boy, though I love Harrison as well! In my opinion, you can't go wrong with either of these, though I have to admit I got a few weird looks when I told people I was considering Lennon. It didn't really both me though, and I'll still consider it if I ever have a boy.

  • Huge Beatles fan here as well!

I would say Harrison over Lennon... While I actually like Lennon better, it's a little bit akward to say imo

    I also like Ringo :)

  • Lennon is very unique. It's NMS because I like classic names.. Harrison is very trendy right now. I don't like it.?
