Do you feed your LO korean food?? If so, what do you give her and do you have a receipe to share??
I'm half korean and LOVE korean food. But since my mom has passed away, I hardley eat it. Every once in awhile we will go to a korean bbq buffet. DD actually love gogi and she likes the seawood soup, which is also my favorite since a child. Would you have that receipe??
TIA!

sorry for responding so late!! but yes, i'd love to share the recipe. dd is a very picky eater but she is always up for sticky white rice and soup. i think she lives off of the seaweed soup and bean sprout soup!!
there are slight variations of the soup but here is mine:
seaweed soup / meeyuk gook
ingredients:
-dried seaweed (comes in long strips - use about 1-2 strips. it will expand a lot)
-a little bit of chopped/diced beef
-1 teaspoon of minced garlic
-sesame seed oil
1. break up the strip of seaweed so that it fits into a large bowl. soak in cold water for 30 minutes
2.drain seaweed and add lots of salt and mix w/your hands. wash seaweed thoroughly, squeeze out water very well and chop
3. put the seaweed back in the bowl and put in about 1/4 cup of sesame seed oil and mix w/your hands. saute in a pan for 5-7 minutes on medium heat. keep mixing and make sure it doesn't burn. add more sesame seed oil if needed.
4. saute beef in a little bit of oil separately.
5. in a medium pot, add the sauteed seaweed, beef and minced garlic and add about 5 cups of water or until the pot is almost full. let it boil, then simmer for about an hour.
6. add salt to taste. usually i use about 1 1/2 teaspoon of salt or sea salt. i also add in some diced soft tofu at the end (koreans would find the addition of tofu to seaweed soup very strange but dd gets her protein this way!
)
the soup tastes better the next day so i usually make it at night for dd to eat the next day. i usually make enough to last 2-3 days.
also, here are some really awesome korean cooking websites that i use for reference (usually i will tweak it a little for dd):
www.maangchi.com
www.xanga.com/koreancooking
have you tried the bean sprout soup? i also add tofu to it and dd loves it. sometimes i make the bean sprout soup and other times i just make the bean sprout side dish and serve w/rice. anyways i hth!
also another good korean food for outings is either kimbap or cali rolls. it seems time consuming but if you make all the ingredients the night before, you can just warm them and then make the rolls in the morning. it still takes me a long time but i am still a newbie and still practicing. what is really good about the rolls is that you can always switch it up w/different veggies and kids usually love it. let me know if you want directions.
