How do you get child to like milk?

My daughter will not drink milk to save her life. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can encourage her to drink it more?

  • We tried a bunch of brands and also gave it to her in a bottle instead of a sippy then transitioned to a sippy. She has her milk in a tall Nuby.

  • Will she drink flavored milk? Strawberry, banana, and chcolate milk are all common in our grocery stores here. You could start her on 1/2 flavored milk 1/2 regular and just keep diluting it until she's on all regular. I guess it's worth a shot right?

If she doens't drink milk right now what does she drink?

  • We're going through the same thing, although DH (who is the milk giver and SAHD) hasn't tried any shananagins yet to get DS to take it.  If you're doing BFing now, perhaps pump some and do a mixture of the two - slowly getting to 100% cows milk?  I've also heard of putting it in with some yogurt (like a smoothie), and I've thought about pureeing in some bananas to give it a banana flavor (but without the extra sugar).  Good luck!

  • Does your babe like water? I can't get jasper to take anything but water in the sippy, but if I dilute goats milk with water he'll take it.. then like pp says you can slowly dilute less. I also know someone who did the chocolate milk to regular process.

  • DS wouldn't drink milk out of a sippy, only a bottle, even though he drank everything else out of a sippy.  I wanted him off the bottle so at his 1 year checkup his doctor suggested putting chocolate milk in a sippy.  He sucked that down like it was saving his life.  I used the Hershey's syrup to make it, started out at about half strength, then slowly backed it down over a month until he was drinking regular milk out of his sippy.  It worked to get him drinking out of a sippy, it might work to get her to start drinking it.
  • I gradually weaned DD off of formula and onto milk.  The taste is so different from formula that it's kinda a shock to them.  Mix some formula in it to give her a familiar taste, if you formula fed.  I wouldn't give her the flavored milk because then that's all they ever want.

I disagree with this.  DS drinks tons of regular milk even though he started out on chocolate.  I still give him chocolate on occasion (like when we went out to dinner on our road trip as a treat for traveling so well) and he will still drink white milk every time we give it to him.
