~*~*~ PCOS Check-In ~*~*~

This is a list of women who are dealing with PCOS. Anyone can join in, so let me know if you want to be on this list! We can keep track of everyone?s cycle, offer advice, and support for each other. We check in every Tuesday and Thursday, and the check-ins can always be found in the PCOSbio.

Good luck and lots of sticky baby dust to everyone!

Good luck and lots of sticky baby dust to everyone!

Let us know how you are doing. If you have any questions for the group to answer, feel free to ask.

QOTD: Does your family know about your infertility, about your diagnosis?

Re: ~*~*~ PCOS Check-In ~*~*~

  • Today is CD 22 of our break cycle. Waiting to start anytime next week & hoping my huge 33mm cyst from last month is gone & can start bravelle again.

QOTD: Yes my family & friends know about my IF & diagnosis. I share this information because it's more frustrating ppl asking "when" & now it's "how is everything". Especially the MTHFR, I have my mom & brother making sure their vitamins include folic acid.

  • Good morning.  I am currently on cycle 3 of clomid at 100 and waiting to see if I O again (I did last time on 100).  Other than that I am been trying to lose weight to help with PCOS and in general get healthier and have been doing really well with that so that is my positive.

QOTD:  We have not told our families we are TTC.  I have told my mom about my IR dx and that is can lead to fertility problems, but not that we are trying.  If we are still at this in another few months we will probably tell our parents but who knows.  If/when we have a kid, we will afterward be very open about our fertility problems I think.  I have no problem discussing them and think more people should talk about these issues.  I just never wanted to tell people we were TTC and that still hasn't changed yet with the PCOS diagnosis.

  • Good morning! I saw this link posted on GP (where I normally hang out) ... and thought I'd take a second to introduce myself!

I'm Sarah ... DH and I were married 11 months ago today! We've been TTC since March. I was diagnosed with PCOS at the beginning of June after not getting a period on my own and bloodwork/ultrasounds confirmed it. I hadn't had any "symptoms".  I'll be 30 in October and DH is 36. We never expected this roadblock!

I've been taking met for almost 2 months now, and my bloodwork this cycle was completely normal for the first time! I still don't know for sure if I O'd ... I'm not temping anymore ... but I'm testing on Saturday morning. I had a BFN last weekend.

edit: QOTD - Our parents know that we are TTC, and that we're dealing with PCOS. A few of my friends are also aware, as is my boss at work who is also dealing with fertility issues ... though not PCOS.

Thanks for the link on GP!

  • My break cycle is nearly over. HSG was done yesterday - all tubes clear! WTF appointment is next Friday (beta, provera, AF). I should be starting my 4th medicated cycle (2nd B2B IUI) around Sept 10th.

QOTD: My family and friends know about my Dx and most know about the IF procedures we've had thus far.

  • Mornin Ladies!

DH and I have been TTC #2 for about 7 months now.  This will be my fourth, and last, clomid cycle.  I hope upping it to 100mg gives me at least 2 good eggies so I can increase my chances this time.

I think after this, we are going to try Femara for a few months.

QOTD:  Our families know about my PCOS and a few of my closest friends.  We haven't announced that we're trying again to many ppl outside our immediate family and friends, but I think most ppl assume we'd start trying again after losing DD.

  • Morning.

I am in the 2ww. Had my IUI #2 on Tuesday so we will see :)

My mom knows that we are having trouble, my brother knows we are trying, some coworkers know we are TTC and having a few problems and some friends. DH family does not know.

  • QOTD: Yes, due to my hysterscopy. I didn't want to hide the fact that I was having surgery from my mom, especially. I knew that she would want to be there.

  • Good morning! I'm going into my 3rd day of Provera. I'm also going on my 3rd day of a fever higher than 100. I'm trying to get in to see the doctor Sad I can't tell if the Provera's working (I don't guess I'd be able to), I'm still having the chronic pain that I was having, only a little worse.

?OTD: My parents and sister's know, but my mom is clueless and in denial and keeps asking "when". UGH it makes me so mad. MIL knows something is up, but I don't think we've told her exactly what. I've told a few other family members that I think might be of support, but that's it. If we TTC for a long time, I might start snapping at the "when"s and tell everybody. lol.

  • I am doing GREAT! Yesterday AF came! It was a 40 day cycle and I was worried my hysteroscopy would have to be put off since I needed to be between CD 4-12 for the surgery. I called my nurse immediately, she put a note in to my RE and she approved the surgery (since it will be like CD 3.5..). So yay! :) I'm also starting BCPs tonight to get rid of these two cysts. And DH's surgery yesterday (vericocele) went great!

QOTD: Sort of...my whole family knows about my cysts since I've had surgery so many times. I'm not sure if they all have put 2 and 2 together to figure out it will cause fertility problems or not. My dad knows about my full "diagnosis" (PCOS, polyp, high insulin, cysts, ect) but he doesn't know that we are actively trying and seeing the RE to get pregnant..he thinks we are just seeing her to fix my problems. My MIL and FIL know everything.

  • Hi ladies!

I'm new to the board (I've posted a little) and new to the group.  Anything I need to do specifically to be added to the group?

A little background on me... We have been trying since June '07.  I had a natural m/c in November '08.  I was diagnosed with PCOS-IR in March of '09.  I'm on metformin currently.  It appears that I haven't ovulated since my miscarriage. We had our WTF appointment with an RE last week and have a new plan of action for next month.  As of yesterday ff said i did o this month.  I went and had blood work to confirm yesterday so should have some results today or tomorrow.

QOTD: Does your family know about your infertility, about your diagnosis?  Minimally.  My oldest sister knows, but she lives out of state so that's part of the reason.  Other then that my two best friends know, but neither of them really get it.  They do try, but it just doesn't really happen.  I haven't really felt comfortable talking with anyone about it.  I don't have anyone close to me that has dealt with IF issues.

  • Still much of the same right now. No signs of impending O, not that I'm surprised.

QOTD: Yes, I think any family that pays attention to what's going on with my life (meaning extended, friends on fb) knows. If they aren't sure, it's not because I haven't tried to share things. Definately everyone in our close families. My step-siblings probably play dumb about knowing, but they do and that's a whole 'nother story. They are all to self-absorbed to ask how it's going. Not everyone understands and does give the token responses that we all hate, but what can I do. At least I don't get too many "when are you having kids" question. I think it's helped bring my mom and me a little closer. She totally doesn't understand everything, but she seems to be more sensitive to my feelings. Both of my grandmothers are absolutely dying to be great-grandmas.

  • Today is CD15 and I'm on BCP thanks to the cyst on my right ovary that killed my IUI cycle. Thanks, PCOS! :)

QOTD: Our immediately family and a few good friends know. We are both very close with our family so it only made sense to tell them. With friends it was easier to tell them than to always have to find new ways to answer the ever popular "When are you having babies?" question. So now, if they ask, we give them a brief over view without divulging too many details.

  • Day 8 of 10 on Provera.I hope AF doenst take to long to rear her ugly head.

QOTD: I was just getting ready to post to the main board about this. My mom, dad and stepmom know I have PCOS. Now whether they understand what that means for my chances of fertility I'm not sure. I had a heart to heart with my MIL before I got married about my PCOS while sitting on a beach with her in the Bahamas.... I don't think she remembers the conversations. She is a nurse practitioner  for an OBGYN so I really dont want to discuss it with her anymore b/c I dont want her $.02

  • Just got back from a week in Maui.  It was bliss.  This was also our first not TTA cycle, but not officially TTC until next.  And I think I ovulated!  My temps were a little off with the time change, so not exactly sure how many DPO I really am.  Also right before my trip my doctor found that I have really high Thyroid Antibodies - 327 (normal range is <35) so I'm being referred to an Endocrinologist and I have a thyroid ultrasound later today.  All other Thyroid levels came back normal.  From what I can tell it sounds like Hashimoto's... sigh.

QOTD:  Since this is a relatively new Dx, no we haven't discussed with anyone.  Maybe in a few months.

  • It doesn't look like I'm going to O this cycle.  So now I'm just counting down the days till I can start AF so I can try Clomid out.

QOTD: My mom and sister both know.  I wish my mom didn't, that's all she wants to talk about.  And she wants to try to be a doctor and tell me what I should and shouldn't be doing.  My sister (who spent 10 years not speaking to anyone in the family) has been soooo understanding and supportive.  She has endometeriosis and has two kids of her own.  We talk all the time now and are closer because of it.  My mom gossips with everyone, so I'm pretty sure my entire hometown knows, but I've not told them!!!

  • Hello! I am a fellow PCOS girl!  DX just a few months back.  Taking Metformin and Clomid (1st cycle of meds) I am just a few days away from O so we will see!  Fingers crossed!

My family knows, but dont think they have a true understanding of what PCOS means and that it could be hard for me to conceive.  (cause they still ask all the time when are you going to be pregnant? Thats the million dollar question, huh?!)

  • I up'd my dosage of Met to two/day yesterday and I felt kinda of sick last night (I take one with lunch and one with dinner). I am on day 6 of Provera and on day 4 I felt cramps quite badly but I think they can be attributed to GI. Overall I am feeling pretty good. I think I may have lost another 1/2 pound (total is 10 pounds) but I am too nervous to check on my own! My next appt is Sept 16 and will probably get bw done to check vit D levels and insulin. DH is concerned about getting pg while we are on Provera and doesn't want to have sex while I am taking it. He is concerned about a risk to the baby (defects etc.). I told him this was a non-issue but he is still worried! I plan on having the RE write an email letting me know not to worry.

QOTD: Nearly everyone I know knows that I have PCOS. I am not a real private person and I tend to lean on many people for support. Everyone has been really understanding and asks a lot of questions. My mom had PCOS and took 13 years to get pg with me (this was in the 1970's-80's and many things have changed now in the medical field), so she was the first one we told. My Mom also has a huge mouth so she told the rest of the family but it doesn't bother me.

Good luck and have a wonderful weekend!

  • Well I am wrapping up this cycle.  I haven't really tried much this cycle because I was pretty depressed after getting the PCOS-IR diagnosis.  I'm still learning what's-what and hoping next cycle will include ovulation.  4 days till next round of Prometrium but I start Met tonight (not looking forward to that).  This week has been bad as far as exercise goes, but I blame that on my workout buddy who has been too busy to come by.  Here's hoping I can get my weight down and start managing this better!

QOTD: Yes, my family knows.  I was one of those idiots who told everyone and their mailman about TTC right away because I was so excited and thought it would happen.  When I got the dx I told both my parents so that the questions of "When when when" would stop.  My DH told his dad and I told my MIL b/c she is making me maternity clothes already.  No other family knows though.  I have told 2 IRL friends but that's it.

  • In f/u to no A/F from the last PCOS check in, I cautiously have a BFP.  I had POAS with a barely there line, waited a day, thought it looked even lighter, so called the RE.  Beta is at 95, so 4wks.  So hoping and praying for a sticky little bean stock.  I am still on Met (just started) and now will take the Endometrin Progesterone supp.

QOTD:  My sister knows about the whole thing.  Other family knows I am on Met for IR.

  • Currently still awaiting AF to arrive... she's late again.  I had signs she was coming last week but she has yet to appear!  Hopefully soon so I can get another shot at this.

QOTD:  My family knows, DH's family probably knows.  We've never outright told them, but they know that we don't believe in using birth control and since we've been married 4 years and no kids, they probably have figured it out.  They do know about my PCOS and endometriosis, so I'm sure they have pieced it together.  They are very conservative and just don't bring it up and I don't really feel comfortable talking about it with them.  Although at times when it seems they choose his super-fertile sister's preferences over ours, I tend to lash out about it just a bit.  ;-)

  • Goodmorning ladies!

QOTD:  Yes, both of our families know about my diagnosis of PCOS and both of our m/c's.  We told them in July right before our 2nd m/c (because I started spotting and we wanted their support if we m/c again...and we did.) and they've all been great. :-)

  • HI ladies! I'm just waiting on AF, so we can start our first medicated cycle w/ Femara and Ovidrel.

QOTD: Yup, my whole family knows and most of my friends, many of my coworkers, random strangers...  :-) I'm pretty open about it and it really helps me to work through things by talking about them. Plus, I think it helps to educate people.

  • not doing super great. Turned 30 today and that hit me hard. It is also making me crazy that we don't know what is happening. TTCin'g our twins - we thought our only probably WAS PCOS - Just O and I will get pg - and that's exactly the way it happened....

this time is so much harder - I have O'd several times both with and without meds - a total of 5 follies since April....DH is great, everything looks good and yet no BFP - I thought for sure I would be pg again by now...but I am wondering why it isn't happening....plus the docs seem less inclined to look for something wrong because we got pg once before and carried to 17 wks....it's really horrible...

QOTD: no, not yet. originally my dx was just pcos but I am starting to wonder it that is the be all end all - I have broached the subject with my parents about ivf/infertility but they are 1) fertile 2) traditional and so didn't seem very supportive....

  • What is kinda nice is that I really didn't hit rock bottom on cd1 when AF came. Normally I am a mess and don't want to be around anyone, but I just had a feeling that it wasn't going to work this time.

I am doing alright. I scheduled an appointment with a new specialist and I see him in two weeks. He is in Columbus, so I have to take the day off work. I am just glad I got in right away. More than likely, I am going to need a lap in the near future, but that is what the consult is for.

I am glad to see the influx of newbies, as long as everyone continues to contribute. Just remember to check-in once a quarter (might change to once a month if too many) or you get dropped from the list.

qotd: All of my immediate family and DH's family know we are infertile and that I have been diagnosed with PCOS. Most of them don't ask questions however, so they may not understand what it entails. Most of my friends know as well but only a few know all the ups and downs I go thru.

The thing is we were never really asked when we were going to have kids because we are the youngest of our siblings and both of the grandparents have grandkids to play with. My mother is getting antsy though because my youngest niece is 7, so she misses having a baby.

  • today is cd5, we decided to do one more inject cycle before moving on to IVF, mostly b/c the office said it might take awhile to set up billing b/c the doctor would have to prove to the insurance that we can't get pg with IUI and have to move on to IVF.  but we saw it as if we have to wait anyway, might as well try one more inject (even though they say it won't work).

So tomorrow I go in for u/s and b/w, which i'm pretty sure they're going to tell me that they have to cancel my cyle.  on cd3 i had several cysts, but b/w showed that they were "inactive"  and they said i could procede.  well a few nights of stims and i'm crampy . . .

and after the monitoring, i have my official IVF consult/set up.

QOTD - yes they know about IF and my diagnosis.  both my parents and ILs but that doesn't mean that they understand it.....

  • Grrrr.....my RE's colleague (that I got pawned off on), who saw me on Tuesday, really ticked me off! So, my update is that I'm trying to find a new RE. And I'm going to have to go to Chicago to do it, I'm sure.

QOTD: Yes, they know about our IF and diagnosis. I'd rather them just know and ask questions about our next steps rather than hearing, "When am I going to get a grandbaby?" every week.

TTC 7+ years - 3 failed IUI's; not going the IVF route; stopped treatment December 2013.

Became licensed for Foster Care: March 2011
    Adoption Finalized: December 2013

  • My immediate family knows - my mom, dad and sister. I just told my dad last week. I've been very selective with what friends I've told as well. Only a handful actually know.

It was hard for me to tell my dad, but I felt like I had to. He was very supportive. I know he won't bring it up though unless I do again to him because he's very sensitive about that kind of stuff. He actually thanked me for sharing it with him, which felt really good.

No updates for me other than still on the provera, waiting for AF to come.

  • Thanks for linking this at GP. Can you add me to the list?

    Ams8099 - Amber TTC since March 2007

I post here sometimes, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to re-introduce myself. I am Amber and I am 28 years old. My husband is Ken and he is 32.  We we have been TTC for nearly 2.5 years. I have PCOS and hypothyroidism. I just started taking meds to get that under control. We are also dealing with MFI. DH takes a bucket load of supplements that were recommended by our RE.  Basically, our only hope is IVF or adoption. I am not ready to give up on a biological child. We live in a state that does not mandate IF coverage, so we are saving money to afford IVF.

Yes, my family does know about our IF and my diagnoses. Being very open with them avoids the ever dreaded question we all loath to hear.It also helps from having to dodge certain events.

Ken and I are the only married couple without children in his family. All of his cousins and sibilings have children (there are 4 babies under 1 year). They were all verey careful when it comes to baby talk around us.

Everyone is very supportive, its so great!

  • Today is CD20 and I just got my dosage of Follistim upped to 125ius. Not sure what to expect on Monday when I see my RE if there is still nothing growing.

QOTD: My family and DH's family all know what's going on, including my diagnosis. A lot of my friends know we are having trouble, but only my closest friends and co-workers get the play by plays and all the gory details. I love having so many people I can talk to, especially when DH either isn't around/available to talk with or just doesn't get it and I need a sympathetic female ear to bend.

    GL everyone! :)

  • Both my family and my husband's family know about my infertility and diagnosis. All have been very supportive and offered to do anything to help as needed to help.

My diagnosis came as a huge surprise in my family as everyone is very fertile. My mother had 4 children and 1 of them was conceived 13 years after my dad had had a vasectomy. My sister conceived while using the NuvaRing.

I was not disappointed at my diagnosis because I think medical technology is amazing and that my husband and I will be able to conceive with medical intervention. I was glad to have a reason for all my bizarre symptoms I was having and know that there are both natural and medical treatments to help.
