Is it *realllllly* that important to pay major $ to graduate from a school with a better name?
I have my master's but no one ever flippin' cares where I got mine from. I went to a state school and paid around $5k for mine.
DH is looking to start his MBA training. A state school charges like $5k for his whole program. An upper tier school wants $40k. I say invest the extra $35k and go the cheap route. The end result is all that matters.
WWYD?
Re: Any nesties with an MBA? C'mon in...
What are the job placement rates for these programs? An extra $35K is worth it for higher placement percentages and higher avg. starting salaries, which is really the end result you want from your MBA.
Don't let them fob you off with data from 2-3 years ago, either. You want the data for the classes of 2008 and 2009. 2007 will not be representative of the current economy.
i think it depends on what schools you are talking about. I got my MBA from a local school, but they have a good MBA program (i.e. highly rated). But you've never heard of the school.
If you are talking Harvard, Chicago, Yale, etc., then sure pay the $35K (can his work pay for it?). If you are not looking at a top tier school, then I would absolutely go the cheaper route.
MBAs are a dime a dozen nowadays - I don't think that the extra $35K will result in a higher salary.
