Anyone else have crusty, dried yellow colostrum in their nipples? I have tried washing it off with a wet towel in shower..but does not come off! I know not to use soap on them. Is their anything else I can do to get it off, or is it just there to stay? ick!
P.S. It makes me worried because it looks somewhat like an infection or soemthing..but googling reassured me that its normal, but didn't really say what I could do for it.
Re: dried colostrum
I would use soap on them.... oops.
Can you rub lotion on them to get it off?
Hopefully this doesn't gross you out, but I have the same thing and I can kind of pick it out of my nipple. It is totally gross, but it is better than leaving it there. I also use the Lansinoh nipple cream daily which has helped them not be so crusty. I think it is normal.
Me too.
Soap can dry out your nipples making thing more likely to get chapped when baby nurses. I used soap up until when my DS was born. never really had any problems.
you mean like the little pearls that get stuck in the grooves? just pick them out like you're popping a zit, or leave them be. Once baby starts sucking on your tits, the top layer of your skin will get chafed/sucked/rubbed off anyway, so you've got nothing to worry about till then.
You could use some nipple cream and see if that helps loosen things up so you can fish them out.
