I have 10 1/2 old twins who are 19.5 lbs and 18 lbs
they are still in the infant carriers/car seats since it is easier with twins when taking them in and out of the car
When did you transition them into the convertible car seats. I was hoping that they will walk first before I get them out of the carriers since it is easier to move them than having to put one down inside first then have to get the other one.
What kind did you get? I have to get 4 so I dont want to get the expensive ones but want to make sure the ones I buy are safe
Re: Infant carriers to Convertible Car seats
We made the switch when the heaviest neared 22 lbs (for us between 6-7 months).
We moved to Recaro Como seats and we LOVE them. They are on a great sale right now at www.diapers.com and I think run about $150 (or slightly less).
We did it a couple months ago bc mine were just to heavy to carry anymore and they weren't comfy in them any longer.
We have the Recaro Como ones and LOVE them they were $100 on www.woot.com but I know Target has them as well and they are reasonably priced.
Make sure they haven't outgrown the length/height for the infant carriers. My kiddos are right around 16 lbs now, and DS is only about an inch away from outgrowing the height max.
I just ordered their convertible seats today. We're getting the Sunshine Kids Radian 80. Technically the 65lb model would have been more practical, but I liked the padding options and color choices of the 80lb model better. Hopefully these seats will last them until at least age 5 because of the 53" height max. I also like that I can rear face them longer than with most other seats.
infant car seats have a max weight limit- check yours- some of them are 20lbs - so you'd need to transition now before your kids go over that.
even if your kids started walking- you'd still be carrying them out to the car- you aren't going to have a walking toddler running around while you try to get the other in the car seat.
we transitioned DS1 when he was 5mo. Not sure when we'll move the twins- probably when i can't carry them anymore- which might be soon- gibby is heavy!!
We just transitioned last week, at 7.5 months. Like someone else said, most babies need to be transitioned before they can walk. It's certainly tricky with twins, but it's pretty much unavoidable. Also, by the time babies are well past 6 months, they are more comfortable sitting up rather than reclining like in an infant seat.
We bought the First Years True Fit Convertible Car seat. It's a really good value for money (and highly recommended in the book Baby Bargains ).
we are making the switch this week. they are 21lbs and 18lbs. we're going on a road trip, so we wanted them to be more comfortable. it will make things more complicated until they can walk, but they'll be more comfortable in the car.
we got the sunshine radian kids 80. we also got evenflo ones as a gift for the second car. we'll probably get the cosco scenarios for the grandparents!
