Toddler bed and child that moves in bed

Hey ladies. Been awhile since I've been able to regularly post in here. I think we are getting close to needing to convert DS's crib to a toddler bed. He's starting to hike his leg up to the front rail so I know it's just a matter of time before he actually figures out that he can escape. My question is DS moves around in his crib. He never is laying the way I put him the night before, and of course that scares me because the rail will only be for a portion of the bed. Granted he won't have that far to fall if he does fall but still it has me worried. For those of you that did move your child to a toddler bed and they were also ones to move all around their crib do you have any advice? Does it magically just stop once they are officially in their big kid bed?

Re: Toddler bed and child that moves in bed

  • I got a very long rail that leaves about 8 inches at the head and about 12 inches at the foot.  DS, even at the ripe old age of 5, still wakes up with his head at the bottom of the bed, but he's never fallen out!

ETA: Also, don't assume that you HAVE to move your DS out of the crib right now just because he's starting to want to climb.  If you can teach him "no climbing" you might be able to keep him in the crib for a while longer.  Like everyone else, with my first child, I was eager to move her to a big bed.  However, that's not always the best move!  Having been through this with a few kids, I'd wait as long as possible to make the move.

This but we have a twin bed not a toddler bed.
