Alimentum users come in!

Yestersay we switched DS from Similac Advance Early Shield to Alimentum (per doctors orders). When he was on Similac Adv, he was consistantly eating 4 oz every 4-5 hours. But now that we switched, he'll only eat 2-3 oz every 3 hours. Did anyone elses LO do this? I sure do miss those 5 hour streatches now...

Re: Alimentum users come in!

  • Did you switch from powder to RTF? Also, the Alimentum digests faster, so they are hungrier faster.

DD was on Enfamil Premium, then Enfamil Gentlease, then Similac Alimentum (don't know why pedi didn't put her on Nutramigen), but the Gentlease only came in powder, so when we switched to Alimentum, she took less, and I attributed that do the thickness of the liquid (powder was very thin). She's now back to her normal feedings after 1.5 weeks. She did go from pooping everyday to every-other-day, so keep that in mind too.

No, we're still using powder. Maybe this powder is thicker though?

  • I think it might be...I tried the powder once and couldn't do it...smelled like throw up to me, LOL; but it did seem a little thicker than Gentlease. But I really think it's because the proteins are already digested, so baby doesn't have to digest as much, which makes them hungrier sooner.

  • DD is a reflux baby, so we were advised to feed her smaller portions more frequently.  She's on Alimentum with 1tbsp/1oz. of rice cereal in her bottles.  She also takes Lactulose to help ward off constipation from the rice.  Works like a charm!
