vitamins?

do you give your DC vitamins? if so what kind?

Re: vitamins?

  • At DD's last appointment, he said the gummy vitamins were fine. I think her current favorites are the Finding Nemo ones.  She asks for a "shishy" every morning.

I'm not a fan of gummy vitamins, so I give DS the chewable My First Flintstones.  They are are lower does for the 2-3 yo (instead of cutting the regular Flintstones in half) & are supposedly easier to chew compared to the regular ones.

My DD is 18 months and I give her mango flavored liquid multi-vitamins I bought at Whole Foods.  I'm not comfortable giving her the chewable ones yet.

  • I give C gummy vites from The Vitamin Shoppe or Whole Foods. It was difficult to find one that had everything she needed but was not made with corn syrup or artifical crap.

She gets one at breakfast and one at dinner.

  • My son gets two gummy vites a day - he loves them!
  • I don't give my son vitamins. He's a healthy eater and eats a well balanced diet for the most part. My pedi told me to skip the vitamins unless he was really lacking in something.

A couple things about vitamins. Our pediatric dentist told us the gummy snacks, candies, and vitamins are among the worst things you can give a child because they can stick to the teeth causing decay.

Most children's vitamins have about 4mg of sugar in them and suggest two a day. That's two teaspoons of sugar twice a day. It's no wonder kids like most vitamins as it's just like giving your child a piece of candy twice a day.

Do some research and try to find sugar free chewable vitamins.

We brush twice if not more per day, I am not worried. She wants to brush her teeth after she washes her hands every time she goes potty, so it is really more like 6 times a day, lol.

  • Same with DD, JAR.  She loves brushing her teeth.
  • We use Dr. Greene Toddler Drops that I get from the Vitamin Shoppe. They have no artificial preservatives or flavors added (which, unfortunately for DD, I think means they taste horrible) and have added DHA.

When using DHA you need to know how much DC is getting through food and regular diet. It can be dangerous and is easy to give too much, same with Vitamin D and a few others. If the vitamin has DHA make sure nothing else you give that day has it.

  • I give DS the My First Flintstone vitamins.  They are specifically designed for 2-3 year olds.  If you give a regular Flintstone vitamin, they only get half at this age.
  • DD gets 2 gummi princess vitaimins, but she is an extremely picky eater and it helps her get the added nutrients that she needs (she seriously refuses most everything...worse than most toddlers according to her doctor).
  • I still use the liquid Whole Foods organic all natural (blah blah blah) stuff and DD slurps it up without a problem. Unfortunately, it's only when I remember. Like 2-3 days a week.

She refused the gummi ones like 2 mos ago. But this past weekend, began liking gummi fruit snacks. So who knows...
