Should we go with Thomas or Brio trains?

I'm looking to start a train set collection for my 2 year old DS and I can't decide on Thomas v. Brio. I like the all wood look of Brio but it looks like there's more variety with the Thomas sets. He likes the Thomas characters and I know you can mix and match the trains so I figure it's okay to still buy a Brio set and Thomas cars. If you love Thomas or Brio please tell me why - thank you! Who knew the toddler train set could become such a big decision...

I don't know what brio is, but we have wooden thomas.  i love them because they are not battery operated.
