metformin and wine?

does anyone other than me indulge in wine while taking metformin?

Personally...I don't drink when I'm taking it. If I know I'm going out or may want a drink later I'll skip my mid-day and evening pill. (I'm not taking the XR) Just because the pharmacist and the bottle say not to.

it's not advisable to do so. as metformin is metabolized by the liver. it can cause your liver enzymes to increase.  and in rare cases liver problems.

also some people have horrible side fx when mixing the two.  such as nausea vomiting and diarrhea. as well as headaches and dizzyness.

i admit though in the past a few times during the holidays or special occasions i just skipped taking the metformin that day if i knew there was going to be alcohol involved at the dinner party or special occasions.

now however i'm freaked out.  my good friend was on it and she was not told not to drink. she would at times drink a bottle of wine herself.  she ended up with elevated liver enzymes and yellowing of her eyes (icteric sclerae)  so she stopped both the met and the drinking.  her eyes are no longer yellow but she has to be careful with meds because of her liver.  she's only 26

holy crap. glad i do as you do and skip a dose or two when the possibilty of a drink is in the future. thanks for making me feel better about my decision!

I didn't know about the liver enzymes increasing. scary !

Anything I eat or drink wrong, I'm in the bathroom with the worst s/e & I'll spare the TMI part. I'm trying to be better everyday.

i hear you about those side fx girl. my RE tried to up my dose to 2000mg a day. i could not handle it. i tried for 2 wks and said F this. RE was fine with me.  it didnt change my cycle anyway at the 2000mg.

and if i eat the wrong thing oh boy do i pay the price.

and sadly i gained wait not lost it since i started metformin.

My RE told me not to take other medicines or drink while TTC. It has been hard but it will be worth it! If you have a glass, please have a glass for me

I have been known to whilst not cycling.  That said, the Met makes it easy to get sick by drinking just a wee bit too much.... yes I have learned this the hard way.
