Scheduled c-section question

Hi there,

I have a c-section scheduled for 12 days before my due date. I hope to BF my soon-to-be baby.

Just wondering if my breasts will engorge and be able to supply to baby the same way they did when I went through labour and then ended in c-section with my first.

Anyone know about this?

Re: Scheduled c-section question

  • Should do.....I didn't have a c/s, but my milk came in faster and I was a bit more engorged with #2 that I was with #1 just as an FYI.   And the 'afterpains' were stronger this time.

  • I had a scheduled C with my son and I was bf'ing him thirty minutes later. It was all colostrum at first and my milk came in a day or two later if I remember correctly.   Good Luck :)
  • My milk actually came in faster the 2nd time.  1st c-sec was unscheduled after labor and milk came in on day 5.  2nd was scheduled and milk came in on day 3.
  • Should be fine.  I was scheduled for a c/s a week before my due date but ended up having it another week earlier due to signs of pre-e.  I was a total of 14 days before my due date.  I had no problems feeding immediately and my milk was in by day 3.
  • Your milk will come in within the same amount of time, most likely. Once your body realizes the baby is out, it will produce milk - no matter when/how your baby is born. My milk for the 27 week baby came in within 2 days. With my 39 week baby it was in 1.5 days later. The second baby was a c-section baby. Your body has been making colostrum for months and that is what your baby will get for the first several days anyhow.

  • I had a c/s and my milk came in on day 5.  I gave very small amounts of formula until then, the LC showed me how to put it on my nipple to help the baby learn to latch.  It worked great.
