I just did my first cycle of Clomid (50 mg) and I had a mature follicle, but did not actually ovulate. My RE said he is upping my dose to 100 mg for the next cycle. I'm wondering if I should ask him about triggering, but I guess I don't really understand why some gals do it and others do not... could someone fill me in? Thanks!
Re: why do you trigger?
"Triggering" forces the body to ovulate mature follicles. So, it is a 96% guarantee that you will release the mature follies that your RE can see on an ultrasound.
That would be a question for your doctor. Are you seeing an OBGYN or a RE? Most RE's trigger patients to make sure they are ovulating when mature follicles have developed to ensure the best chances possible each cycle.
He's a RE. We've never discussed triggering, so I will definitely ask him when I go back next week.
My RE isn't currently having me trigger either...just so you know that not all REs trigger all the time
That is why I said "most" and not all.
I would definitely talk about it since you had a mature follicle but didn't confirm ovulation. It can't hurt and, the trigger shot is less than $100 even if you are OOP. Totally worth it IMO to have the peace of mind that you actually did release the egg.
I have Tricare, and I think they do cover the trigger shot, but even if not, I'd pay the $100 to give myself a good chance.
Thanks ladies!
