Housewarming Party?

We *hope* to close on our house this week. Everyone keeps on asking if I'll have a housewarming party. I feel a bit bad having one because we got married in 07, had a baby in 08 and now bought a house in 09.  I just feel that every year since 06 (when we had our engagement party) people have been buying presents for us and I feel a bit guilty. I know I could say "please no presents" but I know everyone will bring one. WWYD? Still have one or no?  I'm leaning towards no.

Re: Housewarming Party?

  • Are people wanting to just see the house?? I would have one and put please no gifts....

  • We moved into our house 10/5 and just ended up having a Halloween party. (No one brought anything.) You can just have a BBQ or something and not make it about bringing gifts, ya know?
  • Just dont call it that! Like Brittt said just call it a BBQ and invite some friends..
  • OOOoooooh!  I think you should!  Why not?  Wouldn't you love to share your new home with loved ones?  Just call it an Open House and say no gifts.  Most people will honor your request, especially if you let them know their presence and sharing your home with them is gift enough.

    Have fun!

  • Thanks for the tips girls!

  • I love the idea of a BBQ.

We put "no gifts please" on our housewarming invite and 90% of the people brought gifts.

  • Yeah, don't call it a Housewarming Party, then people won't feel obligated to bring something.
