How do you find out your hospital's policies?

I tried looking at my hospital's website. Did you all just ask your OB? There was a group L&D tour last week. I really wish I would've went now. I felt dumb going this early, but I'm an idiot because I realized the next one isn't until I'm 35 weeks.

How did you find out the policies for your hospital?

  • Call them up and ask to speak to the head maternity nurse.  I called when pregnant with DD#1 because I wanted to know their c-section rate, induction rate, etc.

  • Most hospitals offer tours of the L&D for expectant parents.  Also, the tours are usually included in parenting classes.  My OB provided the booklet of the dates.

  • I found out on the hospital tour I took with #1 - our hospital had a only 2 people in delivery room policy (besides dr.s and nurses and staff) - and didn't really limit visitors once you were moved down to your recovery room - whether that will change this winter because of flu concerns isn't really an issue since I intend to stay as briefly as possible in the hospital and it will be right around christmas so I'll see all my family in my house with out making them trek up to the hospital (my hospital did have a REALLY strict photo ID required sign in policy , it seemed somewhat really concerned with no one being in the maternity wing that didnt belong there - which is a good thing , but just make sure if that's the case that everyone who visits you brings photo ID)
  • With DS, the hospital provided a few sheets of rules/ policies that came with the pre-registration info my OB gave me. Ask your OB- they might have something like this on hand.
