~*~*~ PCOS Check-In ~*~*~

This is a list of women who are dealing with PCOS. Anyone can join in, so let me know if you want to be on this list! We can keep track of everyone?s cycle, offer advice, and support for each other. We check in every Tuesday and Thursday, and the check-ins can always be found in the PCOSbio.

Good luck and lots of sticky baby dust to everyone!

QOTD: Question from sliz - Has anyone noticed any changes in their cycles with weight loss/diet?

Re: ~*~*~ PCOS Check-In ~*~*~

  • I want to join in. I think this will be really helpful for me.

  • Today is CD 20 on our break cycle. Waiting to start AF probably next week & start Bravelle again.

QOTD: I have always had regular 28-30 day cycles since stopping BCP. Every month as far as the "period" goes varies on light to very heavy. I have gained weight of course & trying to stay away from carbs/sugars (not easy!)

  • I am in the midst of a break cycle. My HSG is scheduled for tomorrow and my WTF appointment is for the following week, on 9/4. At my WTF appt, they're going to test my beta and bring on AF. Provided nothing is wrong with my HSG - we'll start cycling again once AF arrives.

QOTD: Has anyone noticed any changes in their cycles with weight loss/diet? I am more than just a little bit overweight. I have lost 30 lbs since TTC but it hasn't been enough of a dent to make an impact in my cycles.... which, without medication, are extremely tardy if not entirely absent.

  • Going for IUI #2 this afternoon so we will see.

So far my last 2 cycles have been 34 and 31 days, which are great. Other cycles have been 40, 60, 70 days so 34 and 31 are great. I don't know if maybe those 2 cycles was because I lost about 10 pounds or because I was on meds and I actually ovulated. I have noticed that since I lost 10 pounds that my last AF was only 1 1/2 days and not as bad as they normally are.

  • I would like to join.  I was dx with pcos last week.  I'm on day 4 of met and will start clomid cd3 next cycle.  This whole thing has got me pretty confused.  I'm not sure what I can or cannot eat.  Any suggestions would be helpful.  My gyn is setting me up with an RE so hopefully I will get better advice.  Thanks!

Oh - we have been ttc #1 since April 2009

  • I wanted to thank you all for your responses to my Metformin question last week.  I really appreciated it.

For starters --- it seems like I might have ovulated 2 days ago.  I had warning (EWCM and +opk), so we had good timing, but I'm still a bit cautious that I maybe it's it's a mind fake and I didn't really o.  I guess I'll know it about 2 weeks Wink

QOTD:  I have o'd (as evidence by my losses), but after my cp, I stopped.  Between those losses, I did gain weight.  I don't know if that weight gain was what pushed me over the edge to stop o'ing or what.  Since being diagnosed w/ PCOS I have lost weight (not a lot but some) and started Met.  I believe that I may have ovulated the other day, but since weight loss isn't the only thing that I've changed, I can't attribute that to weight loss... it could be the met.

  • Well, I'm on CD38 and still no sign of AF. It isn't looking good for my surgery on Friday (need to be CD4-12). If my surgery doesn't happen Friday, I probably won't be able to do it until January and then we'll be in DH's season so we won't cycle until June or after. I'm so upset. Stupid, stupid cysts.

QOTD: The only thing that seems to affect my cycles at all are my cysts. If they aren't there, I'm like clockwork, if there are there, well..right now is a perfect example...CD38, ovulated on CD10 and she's a no show..

TTC #1 since June 2008 *SAIFW*

TI, IUIs, IVF = c/ps and BFNs

  • Where I am now is that I just had a miscarriage last week. So my doctor has told me that I can try again in October, which for me means that I probably won't ovulate until Feb. Stick out tongue

QOTD: I am currently not overweight, so I can't be of much help. But my cycles are loooong.

  • QOTD: Not really. I lost about 18lbs prior to going on bcp. My periods were so irregular that when I did get them, they were painful and very heavy. When I was on bcp, they were very light and no issues whatsoever. I've fluctuated my weight within a 10lb range since then (up and down) and I've not noticed any changes in my period.

Update: I didn't "O" on my first cycle of femara. I just started provera to induce a period and now I'm just waiting for AF to arrive. Once she does, I'll take the higher dose of femara.

  • My hysterscopy was a success! AF came without the help of meds last week for the first time ever. I started my first round of clomid Sunday. GL to everyone this cycle!

  • I am CD 22 now with no apparent O.  Waiting on CD35 to test and then induce AF so I can start Clomid.

QOTD: My weight has only changed slightly in the past few months (less than 10lbs) and I haven't noticed any change in my cycle.  In fact, when I was in college, i weighed ~130lbs and never had a normal cycle...was told it was cause I was too small.  I'm now ~150 and was told once it was cause I needed to loose weight to normalize cycles (even though my BMI registers as "normal").  So for me, I don't think its a weight thing.

  • I am currently on day 6 of 10 on Provera.

QOTD: Im not sure b/c ever since when I came off of BCP last sept all I have done is gain weight. Sad

  • Hello Everyone! Things have been going OK. I started Provera on Friday (hello emotions!) and I will up my Met dose tomorrow to two a day. I have been feeling sick / tired in the evenings - especially after taking the Met. My only big issue in the last couple days has been overwhelming hunger. I have been dieting pretty heavily for a while now but I wasn't feeling this intense hunger until Sunday. I called my RE's nurse and she said that it may be attributed to the Met - my body is utilizing the sugar better and may be speeding up my metabolism and so I feel hungrier.

QOTD: I was told to lose as much weight (as fast and safe) as possible. I started at 180 and I am down to 170 in a little over a month. My goal weight is 118 (I am 4'11),I was this weight when I got married in 2006. Only 52 pounds to go!! My mini-goal is 150 and I hope to be there on my birthday. As for my diet, I have been eating less than 1,100 calories a day and swimming. My RE said that he wants me to do aerobic exercises so we are going to buy a stationary bike.

    Good luck everyone!!

  • Hi everyone!!  Its CD17, no sign of "O".  We'll see what happens next month, and I have a dr appt at the end of sept.

QOTD:  All I have done is gained weight since we started TTC.  No change in my cycle.

Jennifer TTC #1 Dx PCOS 2009 Apr, Aug, and Sept tried clomid cycles.... BFN. Oct...DH SA results were normal. Me...HSG - left tube was clear, right tube was slightly blocked. Dec - Clomid #4 200mg Feb 2010 - IUI #1 200mg Clomid = BFN. June 2010 - IUI #2 200mg Clomid = BFN. March 2011 - IUI #3 w/ injectables = BFN (1st & last with RE, moving on to IVF). • Frustrated - feeling like I have no idea what's going on with my body.  Trying to control blood sugars with diet, and switch to Splenda, but I've just recently heard that sweeteners increase chances of M/C. Anyone else heard that?  Just wish some divine intervention would tell me for sure what was going on with my body, and what to do about it. (Or that I'm totally nuts and need help) LOL

    Smile

    Glad this group is here.

QOTD: I would love to let you know, but it seems no matter what I do weight loss is not in the cards for me.  I've been holding steady (+/- 4lbs) for over 3 years. I guess that's better than gaining...

  • Not sure what you can eat - I ditto that! It would be so nice if someone could say "eat this" - here are great recipes - done!  Hang in there!

  • QOTD: I haven't noticed anything yet, but I only started eating better (avoiding sugar and refined carbs) and exercising a couple weeks ago.  I've lost a few pounds, but I was a normal weight to begin with so that really wasn't the goal, the goal was to try and help the Metformin control my PCOS.  I hope it all works!

  • hi please add me back to the list. i hadnt posted in a long time i guess thats why i got removed.

DH is 37 I'm 36 we've been trying since 3/08.  we thought we had MFI but just went back to RE for results of 2nd SA and much improved. still borderline morph 30% WHO criteria. but its much better. i'm severely IR and am overweight. im up to 1500 mg a day of glucophage (doc tried 2000 and i couldnt handle it. plus it wasnt making me O anyways) both my sisters have PCOS as well and struggled with IF, older sister is overweight too(only used clomid) and took 5 yrs to get pregnant when she was trying 16 yrs ago.  younger sister is skinny as a rail with PCOS and had glucophage and clomid and trigger with TI. she was succesful as well

our next step is waiting for AF to show. she's due any day. and then we will start first IUI cycle. with femara and trigger and IUI; thanx to husband improved #'s.

  • I'm on CD18 (I think lol) and on 100ius of Follistim. Still nothing doing in the follicle growth area according to the u/s on Monday. Going back for more monitoring on Thursday and possiblely getting the dosage upped again.

QOTD: I've always been extremely irregular (1 or 2 AFs a year) except when I was on BCPs. When I got off the pill I went right back to no AF without meds. Haven't really lost any weight or changed my diet to see if that would help, but I don't really thing it would.

    GL ladies!! :)

  • I am onto my next cycle. Cd2 today and I made an appointment with a new specialist for next month. It looks like I am going to need a lap sometime this fall.

qotd: I haven't noticed anything drastic with any weight loss (when I actually do lose weight).

  • Better late then never....Started Met XR last evening, had confirmed O on CD36 (temp rise, had first RE visit 8/18, U/S showed I O'd on the Rt, confirmed with Progest level), on own!.  Waiting for AF so I can start Clomid next cycle, but still no AF and no temp drop....hmmmmHmm  Going to POAS tomorrow AM, if no temp drop

QOTD:  I felt better, eating a better diet, but not really weight loss.  Maybe b/c I ate better, I O'd on my own this month??

  • I used to ovulate regularly from age 13-27. During that time I weighed anywhere between 128 -155. I did notice that my cycles stopped in conjunction with weight gain but am not sure if weight gain caused the anovulation. Last year I went up to 184 pounds when we started ttc. I was 175 when I got pg and 178 after the m/c. I am now 147. When I was 164 back in March, I did have a spontaneous O. I am on an unmedicated cycle again to see if I will O. I'll keep you posted.

The femara didn't work for me. If I O this cycle, we may try on our own for 1-2 cycles - if I don't then I will definitely move to follistim. I may also try follistim if I O this month and it is a BFN.

I have recently fallen off the exercise bandwagon - My goal was 145 so I just want to maintain where I am at the least.

  • Please add me.  I'm Danielle.  My background info is in my siggy.  I'll start Met probably tomorrow if I can get the script filled.
  • Hi ladies! It's been a while. We're taking this year off from meds. However I have been on vitex, 1 capsule (4mg) per day in the mornings. After about six months I was considering giving it up.

However (while camping of all places) I had a period! I haven't all year, even with clomid in February. So, I'm thrilled about that.

QOTD: Am just starting to incorporate lower GI choices into my diet.

  • Newbie here!

I wasn't sure if I should post on this board, since DH and I are TTC yet, but someone suggested I do so anyway.

I was just diagnosed with PCOS in June 2009. Pretty much that same week, DH was laid off so we had to postpone TTC for a bit.I am currently on BCP, but am looking to go off BCP and chart with a back-up (probably condoms) until we decide to TTC so that I can know if I ovulate, etc.

I went on a low-carb diet, which has worked for me in thep ast, but I am having no such luck. Not sure if Metformin would be better, but I am going to be talking with my doctor about that soon.

  • Hi, I'm Candice. I want to join too. I went off the pill in December 2008, diagnosed and confirmed PCOS in June 2009, and we just started TTC this month. So glad to have found this board!
