Leapfrog Leapster 2??

I'm thinking of getting my almost 4.5 yo one of these for Christmas. He has recently become very interested in learning games on the computer, and I'm sick of having to share my laptop.

Is it pretty easy for a child to use? How old was your DC when you bought one? Any game reccomendations? Negatives? Positives?

  • My 3 and 5 y/o have them and love them and can use them on their own.? The games are expensive and the batteries don't last long.? ? ?

  • I just bought one for my 4 year old.  She totally figured it out on her own.  We like the Nemo, Pet Pals, Disney Princess, Dora and there's a leapfrog letter game that she likes.  The manual says not to use rechargeable batteries, but we haven't had any issues with them.  It does go through batteries fast, I wouldn't use regular ones.  And the charging station seems like a rip off.  The only negatives are that she wants to play it constantly and often whines when I limit her time with it.

  • DD got one for her 4th bday. ?I showed her how to use one game, and she is an expert at all of them now. ?I agree with Dande. ?I stock up on games when they are on sale and I can find a coupon, and I got rechargeable batteries from costco. ?She seems to like it, and I don't thikn she'll outgrow it too soon (and I don't think she was ready for a DS yet)

I was thinking the same thing regarding a DS Lite or whatever they are, but I know eventually I will be buying him one of those - he can pass the Leapster onto to DS #2. Good to know about the batteries.

  • My twins just turned 3 in June and we got them this month to keep them occupied on a long car ride.  They get how to do them, though some of the concepts are a little above them at this point.  The Clifford game is the best one we have right now, and I think I am going to get them more for Christmas from ebay since they are so expensive in stores.
