I have PCOS and just started taking Metformin today... 1 a day for 7 days and then twice a day after that. Just wondering if any of you can give me a heads up of what to expect or if there are any nasty side effects.
I started taking it 4 weeks ago. I've worked my way up to taking it three times a day now.
My side effects haven't been bad. For a few days after I've up'd my dosage I've had a bit of stomach problems --- tmi, but loose stools. It was nothing that I couldn't tolerate though and it didn't last more than a couple of days.
Other girls find that eating carbs or high fat meals makes a difference in the side effects, but it hasn't for me.
On the good news front, it seems like it might be helping regulate my cycles. Based on my fert signs and temps, it seems like I might have o'd yesterday for the first time since April.
Good luck with your Met.... in my opinion, it's not as bad as it can be made out to be.
Hey there! ?We're the same age (27), and wouldn't you know it -- I also just started Metformin, although I've been taking it for almost a month now. ?I think your RE has the right idea by having you slowly increase your dosage. ?That's what mine did and so now I'm doing 1,500mg/day. ?I haven't had any unpleasant side effects whatsoever. ?
Just remember to take it with a full meal. ?I've heard that helps - I know it's helped me. ?What I was really wondering about was how long it takes to kick in and make you ovulate. ?This is one I've heard a couple different answers to. ?I just saw my RE today, though, and he said that I will likely ovulate this next cycle and that 40% of women who take Metformin alone will ovulate. ?Sounds like decent odds to me. ?I just don't want to take Clomid. ?That's the one that really sucks as far as side effects go.
I'm on Met and I absolutely hate it. It makes me so, so sick. I've never, ever had a problem swallowing pills in my whole life (even as a child...I could take pills w/o even having anything to drink) but these suckers, I struggle with them every night..mostly because I know how sick I'll feel after.
I hope you have a MUCH better experience than I've had..I hope I can be done with them soon..
I have been taking Met for about a month now. I just started my fifth week. I am up to 3 a day as well, so 1500. I typically don't ovulate on my own and I am thinking I did this cycle too. I do have a hard time to get them down, they have a weird taste, but it's not that bad. I do sometimes feel sick. I actually try to wait half hour after eating, but that's just me. So far I haven't had any crazy being sick incidents.
I do think they make me tired. Something is, I am just so tired all the time, like when I was on PIO.

Hi. I'm on Met now. I've been on it since July 13th. It took awhile for me to adjust to it. There were a few weeks of stomach problems, but I have adjusted to it now. GL, I hope it works for you.
thanks ladies... uugghh well I took the first one earlier today and my stomach is really upset right now. Hopefully my body will get used to them and I wont feel like this all the time.
This is my first day on met... I can't imagine how I'll feel once my dose is up'd. I hate side effects...
Are we allowed to take anything like imodium or pepto to help with stomach issues?
