Projectile vomiting?

Anyone's LO do this ever?

L has started spitting up more over hte last week, I didn't think much of it. On Saturday he was in his swing & I heard a gurgling noise, I turned to look at him & he was spewing, forcefully a huge amount of vomit, probably everythign he had eaten about 30 minutes prior. I cleaned him up & figured I put him in the swing too soon after eating. This morning I fed him and was sitting with him sleeping on my lap when I heard a gurgle in his throat and all of a sudden he was projectile vomiting, like an arced stream of it, undigested, he was covered, soaked thru his sleeper & onesie & my shirt & lap were both soaked thru to my underwear, it had to be his whole feeding. He seemed to be uncomfortable. I freaked a bit. DH thinks he just over ate, I thought EBF babies could not overeat? I am trying not to over react about. He has spit up since but no more forceful vomit. WWYD?

Re: Projectile vomiting?

  • I would definitely talk to your pedi about it.
  • Loading the player...
  • I would call the pedi and ask about reflux.
  • if he does it with every feed - call the doc.  Hydration is a main concern.... and if it's happening every time he eats now- you hvae to worry about pyloric stenosis.

My sister had PS - it requires surgery, but is pretty simple to fix.

if it is not happening with every feed- then try keeping him in an upright position longer after eating- make sure he gets a good burp, do not let him bend at the waist (as the car saet and some swings do)...

if it keeps up talk to the doc- could be reflux.
