Storage Bags

I'm visiting from 3rd tri.  I'm trying to get my registry in order.  I'm planning on getting a madela breast pump and was trying to figure out what the best storage bags are.  Can you use any brand?  What do you recommend?

Thanks so much from a soon to be first time mom!

Re: Storage Bags

  • I think you can use any brand but I prefer the medela bags. I found the lansinoh ones not as sturdy. Others might have a different opinion.

Oh, and it does take some practice to get the medela ones closed correctly but once they are closed I have never had a leak.

I have never tried the feature they have where you can supposedly pump directly into the bag. I pump into a bottle then pour it in the bag.

  • I believe you can use any type of bags.  So far I've been using the Gerber Seal N Go bags & haven't had ANY leaks.  I think they are one of the cheaper bags but they have totally worked for me.

  • I've only used Lansinoh bags and have had no problems with them leaking.
  • I started with the Medela bags, but had problems with closing, the small size, and getting air out.  I like the Lansinoh ones.

Medela pump and save bags do not work with the Freestyle pump. Just make sure you are not using the Medela freestyle pump. GL

  • If you don't need to pump for work or anything, I would wait and see. I ended up never pumping and never using bottles. It was just a lot easier for us.
  • i used the gerber bags with my oldest daughter...this time around i've been using the lansinoh ones...over the last 3 months i've only had 2 bags to leak...i say only...but both times it hurt my feelings really bad.

Wait, I use the freestyle pump and I love it! I also use the medela bags, I just pump into the bottles and then pour them into a bag. It's not a PITA, I swear.

I would not reject the freestyle just because you can't pump into a bag--it is so small and light and easy to take around. Also the handsfree function works great!
