How Long Will A PCOS Panel Take?

I have to have a PCOS panel tomorrow - I think a glucose tolerance test and a bunch of other b/w to check for IR, etc.  I know you have to drink a drink and then they test your sugar 2 hours later or something...they told me to come in anytime from 9-12, but how long will the whole thing take?  Do I need to take a 1/2 day off work?

Re: How Long Will A PCOS Panel Take?

  • I had a 2 hour glucose tolerance test this morning.  Basically, they draw your blood, then you have 5 minutes to drink the horrible glucose drink.  After that I had my blood drawn 1 hour later, and 2 hours later.  I arrived at the lab at 7, but they didn't get my started until 7:30, so I wasn't done until 9:30.  I suggest going as early as possible since you can't eat or drink before or during the test.

  • I only had a 1 hour GT test. You might want to call the office to get an idea of what they're expecting.

  • I did this last month. I was at the testing center from 8am until almost 11am, including the 2 hour glucose. And the 2 hour glucose made me feel so bad (even though I later learned I passed it easily), that I had to go home and nap for the rest of the day. Good luck!
