I am a registered nurse who did floor nursing for many years. I loved my job but since DH is a firefighter and works 24 hour shifts, I needed to get off of pms and nights so I took a job as a manager of a clinic. I love my job, except for the staffing part. If someone is sick, out on vacation, or leaves before I have the job filled I do not have a float pool to pull from. It is a major stressor in my job. One that I am dealing with right now.
I have a position open that I posted 2 months ago. I got a few good candidates in, but none that the physician wanted to hire because they are new grads. I'm so frustrated because if I hired the one that I wanted to a month ago, she would almost be up and running. And she could have worked along side the nurse who is leaving the position. But now I'm struggling to find coverage when there are no staff to even pick up those hours. And her words to me today, "you need to have a plan in action come Sept 11th" (when the nurse who gave notice is officially done). I would love to, and would have it in place right now if I had the staff.
I just need to vent.
