Going to lose my job

My company is going to do layoffs, and I will hear my fate tomorrow. I'm expecting I will be let go because of the parameters put in place. I'm devasted.  I'm also sure this cycle is going to be a bust too. DH wants me to go back on the pill immediately when I lose my job.  I know for a fact I will be losing my job. We have a high mortgage payment and I currently have a company car.  We will most likely go into foreclosure because no houses are selling. My world will come crashing down. The economy is so bad and I looked for jobs and there is nothing out there. I know there are worse things that can happen, but I never thought I would be put in this position.

Where can I find the list of companies that have IF coverage? Maybe that is the only positive that can come out of this situation.

  • I am so, so very sorry.  I am not sure of where to find companies that have IF coverage but do hope you get some advice.  What area do you live in and what is your line of work?  I do like how you are already able to seek out a positive, even if it might be down the road.  The cliche 'everything for a reason' gets old for us IFers, but it certainly seems to hold true for me.  Hang in there and hold onto hope.
  • i'm so sorry!!  its the last thing you need right now, isn't it!?!?  ugh!!  I find out on Friday if i have a job or not.  I'm so sorry that you might have to deal with such financial stress!!!!
  • I'm so sorry.  I'm not sure about companies with IF coverage, but maybe try government jobs.  When my husband and I worked for the state government, and I worked for the federal government, we had pretty good IF coverage.
  • Oh no - this is terrible!!  I'm so sorry :(  Will your company provide any severance?  One piece of advice I have heard is to sign up for unemployment benefits immediately.  You may even be able to start the process on-line.

Also, look into loan modification - it may help you stay in your house.

I remember one of your previous emails about potentially losing your job. We're in the same industry so I checked my company's open position list and we had a sales position open in Philadelphia... but I think you were too far from there. Anyway, PM me if you want info about my company. We have IF benefits - 3 IVF attempts per live birth up to $100K lifetime.

Try calling your mortgage company and tell them whats going on. Sometimes they are willing to help those who are in really good status with them. If you have student loans, do the same thing.  We have a TON of student loans and have had to do this several times when I was unemployed.

I'm actually in the Pittsburgh Area, so philly is out. We can relocate close to Cleveland as well.

Thanks so much for the support. I am a pharmaceutical rep so not a lot of job  opportunities in my industry or anything that will come close as far a salary.

I'll post tomorrow after the dreadful call.

  • Your post made me cry at my desk. I am so sorry. Don't completely give up on selling your house, we bought ours when "no one was buying". Best wishes to you.

  • Oh sweetie. I'm so sorry and I'm hoping that you're not let go. ((hugs)) Please know that we're here for you. Let us know how tomorrow goes.
  • I am so sorry for you.  This economy has wreck so much havoc on good lives and I hope things will work out soon for you.
  • Ugh (((hugs))) I'm so sorry. I know how you feel. I lost my job due to layoffs in early July. Keep your head up. Apply, apply, apply. I would touch up your resume and cover letter and once you have heard your fate, start your unemployment benefits right away. I do it all online and I have the check direct deposited so that's really convienent.

In regards to your home, is there anyway you can refinance to get a lower payment? Or maybe even rent it out and move into a more inexpensive rental? If you are willing, you could post your budget on the Money Matters board. Those ladies always find things that you can eliminate/cut down on. I have picked up a lot of better spending habits over the last couple years on there.

And I def hope thatyou are able to find something with IF coverage! Fingers will be crossed for you. PM me if you ever want to talk. Good luck!!!
