Infertility

~*jenjen*~

So, I wasn't on all weekend and was wondering what you status is?  I am not very familiar with PGD but was wondering if you have heard anything about your embies?

Hoping everything goes well and you have a few good ones to transfer.  And sorry if you have posted already and I just missed it!

Re: ~*jenjen*~

  • Hey!  I havent heard anything yet, but hope to hear more this afternoon.  For PGD, they biopsy 1 cell out of each embryo that has > 5 cells on day 3, and send those individual cells to a lab in Michigan.  That lab has special probes they created with our dna that they use to test the cells for CF...the test takes about 17 hours and then they call my dr with the results on the morning of day 5.  The waiting is very stressful for me!!  Last time they were able to biopsy 5 of our 7 embies, so i hope we get more this time.  They'll be able to tell us which embies are unaffected, which are carriers, and which have CF...it's pretty cool actually.  We'll give the CF embies to research and keep the rest.

So how was your weekend with dh?  And where have you jetted off to now...back to Canada or somewhere new?

  • That is so interesting about the PGD.  I am so fascinated by the things they can do these days.  And I bet you are going crazy not knowing anything.  I got a fert report every day between ER and ET and I would be freaking out if I didn't get the call by 10am so I can't imagine not knowing anything.

Your ET will be tomorrow right?

My weekend with DH was good!  We went out to a new bar in the Washington Corridor Friday night - I haven't been out in months so it was fun to hang out, have a drink (or 5..haha!), and relax.

I am back in Canada again.  And, oh my was it an adventure to get here.  We sat on a tiny plane at Newark for 4 hours before taking off.  We apparently didn't have enough fuel and were going to stop in Maine to re-fuel but then Maine got bad weather so they decided to pull back to the gate in Newark and give us more fuel there.  Then, there was a lady puking her guts out the entire time we were sitting at the gate (but on the plane) and the pilot spent a good 2 hours trying to decide if it was a liability to Continental to fly with her on the plane.  So frustrating - and nasty seeing as she was sitting right next to me!  But, I made it here in one piece.

  • They wait until the end of the day on day 3 to do the biopsies so my little embies can be big and strong.  But yes, i am dying.  Last time i didnt get a call until the next day.  Our ET will be Wednesday at 1:30...eek.  Oh, and last time we were in the waiting room for our ET and the PGD report hadnt even come in yet...so we had to wait another 15 agonizing minutes for that.

Ooh, there are fun new bars on Washington...where did yall go?  Glad you had fun with your husband this weekend.

OMG, that plane ride sounds terrible.  I HATE NEWARK....seriously, worst airport ever.  So did the puking lady stay on the plane?  Gross, i probably would've thrown up just seeing/smelling/hearing her throw up.  Ugh.

  • Keep me posted on your status.  I can't wait to hear!  Do you even know how many made it to the biopsy stage?  I am really excited!!!

We went to Rebel's Honky Tonk.  It was fun!  One of my college room mates was in town for the night so we had a blast reliving our "glory days".  We live right close to there so we actually walked!

Yes, the vomit lady stayed on the plane.  The pilot came and talked to her and she said that she was just "not feeling well due to motion sickness."  So, after the pilot gave her the OK I offered her some peppermint tea b/c I had the tea bags in my purse and they always help soothe my stomach.  Well, the woman proceeds to tell me that she has been in Africa and contract "something."  I seriously almost threw her out the door of the plane myself.  I can't believe she had some mysterious illness from Africa and was confined on a small plane with other people.  So, if I disappear in the next few days I have probably caught this Africa disease.

  • Oh no, I hope you dont get her african disease...we might have to postpone lunch :)  So how was she so motion sick if yall were just sitting on the ground for 4 hours?  I get motion sick easily, but usually only when we get going and there's actually motion.  Weird...hope you dont start feeling sick!

Hmm, i've never been to Rebel's Honky Tonk...might have to try that out.  Not that we go out alot, but my recent nights over there have been at Pearl Bar, Ei8ht, Kobains and the sushi restaurant Soma, which is basically a club, but tasty.  That area is getting pretty fun...must be nice to live right there!

I'm not sure how many have made it to biopsy...hopefully they'll call me this afternoon with details...i hope they all do....sooo nervous......
