Infertility

Lap on Wednesday- ?

Good morning girls! I am finally having my lap on Wednesday (after it was declined by my insurance in June- I wrote a letter protesting and they approved it :), yeah me!)... I have a few questions:

1. I have been on birth control for 1 month... my 2nd IVF failed at the end of July, so I started on bcp right away in preparation for either the surgery or another IVF cycle. Well, low and behold, exactly 27 days later, I started my period this past Saturday... heavy one time, and then just spotty. I am still taking the bcp. What should I do? I don't want to call my nurse bc I am afraid they might cancel my surgery.

 2. I have to do a bowel cleanse tomorrow :( and go on a liquid diet for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. How terrible is the stuff I have to drink for the cleanse? This is all in preparation for the surgery on Wednesday.

Any advice, words of encouragement, would be and are greatly appreciated.

TIA

Re: Lap on Wednesday- ?

  • I am sorry I cannot answer you questions but I just wanted to say good luck with the lap

Also - I had to be intubated and it make my throat very sore for the next few days after the surgery - so ice pops and couch drops were wonderful - you may want to stock up on them.

  • 1. I wasn't on BCP preceding my surgery.  They scheduled me to have it on CD8 I believe.  I had just finished up before the surgery.  I'd call your nurse because you want to make sure you're doing what they want.

    2. I had to do a bowel cleanse/liquid diet the day before surgery.  This honestly was the worst part of the whole thing!  The phosphosoda stuff is NASTY.  I would start wanting to vomit just trying to drink it.  I had to control the gag reflex and just pinch my nose and drink.  I never did drink the amount they wanted me to, but trust me it was obviously more than enough!  Stay home that day because you will be tied to the toilet on and off all day.  It was rough.  They make these wipes that are much easier to use than toilet paper... it gets to be too abrasive after awhile.  Definitely keep those on hand!  And I was able to drink water and clear drinks like Sprite.  I mixed the phosphosoda into the Sprite to help... still can't drink Sprite to this day though, lol!  Just brings back bad memories.  Wink  I could eat Jello and drink chicken broth.  That helped to settle my stomach some.  Good luck, I did not enjoy this part.

The surgery itself as well as the recovery was not a big deal.  I was very sore sitting up, and really just slept a lot.  Stay reclined as much as you can until you feel up to it.  I definitely kept myself drugged as well the first two days... but you want to wean yourself off drugs as soon as you can since it can really constipate you.  I had my surgery on a Friday and went back to work on Wednesday.  I took it light, no bending, no picking anything heavy up, and was back to feeling 100% after another week or so.  The scars aren't noticeable at all... 3 along bikini line and 1 inside belly button.  You'll do fine!  Don't fret about it too much!  It's a quick & easy procedure, out same day, and in a few days you'll be feeling good as new!  Good luck!
