Alot of people don't even go to a preconcetption checkup. I didn't, unless you have issues that you think may need to be addressed. Usually they just tell you to start taking prenatal vitamines and have sex. If you do want to go I would think go to your ob/gyn.
"Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart."
FYI- A lot of gals on here will say that appt is unnecessary, just to take a PNV and read up on conception. It's up to you if you'd like to have a pre-conception appt but many here have not felt it was needed.
I talked to my GYN when I had my annual, because it happened to fall in the same time, and was grateful for the information she provided. I got a Rx PNV (which I prefer to OTC because it doesn't upset my stomache), and she did bloodwork to get a baseline on everything and to see if I was a carrier for certain items, which I appreciated.
I'd make the appt with your GYN, but be sure that you can get your money's worth and time out of it and it won't be just a quick chat and advice to "take a PNV and call me in a year if no sucess" type of attitude.
I did both, while i was there for other stuff. I checked with my PCP about my thyroid meds & general health and with my obgyn about TTC & general health. I would say just ogbyn if you have nothing that you are treating through your PCP.
I did one. I went to my Ob/Gyn, actually I went to a new one because of a change in my insurance. I've had some female health issues in the past so I just wanted to talk with a dr and make sure everything was ok. Plus I just had some other general questions I wanted to ask.
I have a physical coming up this week and I plan on talking to my doctor about TTC and see what she thinks, in her medical opinion. I think it's a good thing if you're wanting to be cautious.
I talked to my obgyn at my annual and told her when I planned to start trying. She prescribed me a prenatal and gave me a talk about avoiding certain fish for a few months before trying to conceive. Not much other than that, I was surprised. Good luck!

I talked to my OBGYN during my yearly visit. She did the same as the other girls said, prescribed PNV, told me what to avoid, call me when your KU, but also said if nothing has happened by December give her a call and we'll arrange some tests.
If you've already had your yearly visit just give them a call and see what they say. They may tell you good luck, call us when you're KU or ask you to come in for bloodwork or other stuff.
Thanks for all of the advice ladies! I thought the appt would be more involved.. sounds like it'll just be PNV and getting it on! I am in good health with no major concerns.. I do need to set up my yearly, so I will just talk with them then about TTC.
I'm really glad you posted this question because I was about to post the same thing. ?I have been trying for 8 months now and I am so nervous about seeing a doctor. I don't have one because I lost my job and have a new insurance plan. ?My best friend is an OBGYN in another state and she gave me the same advice: Take PNVs and have sex but not too much sex. ?She also said that it usually takes an average of 6 months to get pregnant. ?So now I am past that point and Im afraid something is wrong. It sounds stupid but fear is what is keeping me from going. ?Even worse my friend says that after a basic inspection they will probably test DH before they do any more tests on me. ?
But enough about my problems (sorry about the vent). ?My friend says that a OBGYN is the best bet because once you do get pregnant they will give you a pap smear if you haven't had one in a year. ??
Another important thing to check with your dr. (obgyn or regular) is if you need innoculations of any kind (e.g. if you have never had chicken pox, etc.). If you do need any injections, you will have to put off ttc for a month...
I would do both. When I told my GP that my husband and I would be trying soon she did blood work and found out that I had low thyroid levels so I was able to get that regulated before trying. (I had a family history of this but it never showed up until my mom and grandma were in their 40s so nobody ever thought to test me at 26). My GP was also the one that checked my iron levels, etc. My ob just put me on prenatal vitamins and said good luck!
Re: preconception appt
Ob/gyn
ETA: It can't hurt to have a regular physical w/your GP as well though if you're going to start TTC.
