NTR....ants!

Every year we get infested with ants.  It has something to do with the land they built on.  We can not get an exterminator unless everyone in our townhouse row does it and the people next door rent so there is no hope of that.  I just had to empty our pantry again and throw out 2 boxes of cereal because the ants have invaded them!  I will be putting the cereal in plastic containers from now on....but what have you found to really help keep the ants out??  We have them upstairs in our bathroom too.  I think they like our lilac bush but I REALLY dont want to have to get rid of it!

Re: NTR....ants!

  • We had ant issues earlier this summer. AAAAAAAAAH.  Hated it.  They didn't get into the food, but it was still nasty.

There are a few things they hate:  white vinegar, cinnamon, and black pepper.  Little dishes of those scattered around can't hurt.  Very EF, too.   Also plugging holes around windows and doorways helps.  Vaseline is a quick fix.

I also got a $$ vacuum cleaner.  (Looooooove my Miele. :)  Good to vacuum the little suckers up, and good to keep the floors REALLY clean to discourage them from coming to our place.

But the best thing?  Those little ant baits. They're not cheap, you need lots, it takes time for them to work, and I don't think they're too EF...  but I couldn't have cared less at the time.  We had about 30 of them in the kitchen, living room, laundry room and bathroom.  I also got some outdoor ones for our balcony and front door.  Eventually, they must have brought the poison back to the next, since we don't even have ONE anymore.

  • Careful with boric acid.  Don't want the little ones getting into it.  Those baits are safer.  (Unless a kid was to chew on one....  DD knew they were for the "yucky ants" and that they would make her sick, so she's never even touched one.)

Hope you both have some luck soon!
