Average price for nursery furniture set

For those who have children already or brought your nursery FURNITURE set already, how did you spend for like a 3 price set?  I went looking at BRU over the weekend and found a set I liked for $1200.  Is that average or crazy expensive?

Re: Average price for nursery furniture set

  • $1200 is CRAZY!!!!  Especially for only 3 pieces!  You can get a custom made set for maybe $200-$400 (which I consider expensive).

For DD's nursery, we got it all from PB Kids and paid around $300... this go around we found a set we liked for $115.

  • It really depends on the brand/material it's made from/etc.  I would set a budget beforehand and there are sets in all price ranges.  We bought a crib and a dresser for about $1200.
  • Are you talking about the Furniture or the Bedding.  1200 for furniture for 3 pieces isn't nuts, but it sounds like the pp thought bedding and that would be nuts.

400 including tax for Crib, Dresser, and one other piece isn't outrageous.  You can do better and worse.

I just did an edit to my post.  I'm talking about a 3 piece furniture set!  Sorry about that.

  • Our crib, dresser, and conversion kit was $1200.  I think that's a good price in my opinion. The bed changes into a full size head & foot board, so it something we can use for a very long time.  :) Good luck.
  • OK... after reading others posts I realize now that you may have been talking about the actual furniture... not the bedding set.  If you are speaking of the furniture then $1200 sounds reasonable.  I want to say that we spent around $1200-$1500 on DD's furniture... that's for a convertible crib, dresser, and night stand.  I'm willing to pay more for better quality... so I'd definitely be sure to check out quality before spending the $$.

  • Whats the 3rd Piece.  I don't think anyone would tell you 400 for a dresser, and 400 for a Crib was out of this world.

It was the crib, a tall chest and a smaller chest of drawers.

  • $1200 is not CRAZY expensive, but you could do better at Wal-Mart. They carry many of the same sets as BRU, until you get into the really high end brands.
  • I think that is a pretty good to average price. ?We were nursery furniture shopping over the weekend and all of the actual stores that we went in were a lot more expensive than that, but you can get good deals online. ?Just make sure you find reviews of the products if you are ordering online. ?We loved a set that was online, and then I looked up reviews and everyone said it was horrible. ?We ended up going with JC Penney because they are pretty decently priced, and the reviews were mostly 5/5 stars. ?We paid almost exactly $1200 for 3 pieces, including the shipping.

  • We spent $250 on the crib and then if we wanted the matching dresser it was between $200-300....but we are using a dresser we already had to save money.
  • Baby Bargains lists a sample budget for an affordable nursery.

The total is $1275. Graco Sarah crib, simmons mattress, Baby Cahce dresser, Dutailer glider, miscellaneous.

I've read BB, searched online, and looked at every store that sells baby furniture in our area. It seems that a three piece set will cost us $1500+/-. This will include a convertible crib, combo unit (dresser), and chest. Edit: this is partly because we narrowed it down to Westwood or Bonavita, possibly Munire for the furniture (something with an A rating).

Add the mattress and glider and we're looking at $2000. Eek!

  • i think $1200 is cheap for 3 pieces...My mom purchased 2 pieces our crib and  changer/dresser combo for $1250 which includes shipping and assembly...each pieces was like $550...My husband and I plan on buying the hutch and 6draw dresser...which will cost us the same as her..this is from BuyBuyBaby...plus mattress and bedding and glider/ottoman...It can be really expensive especially if you get nice pieces...
  • we paid $800.00 (and change) for the Dresser and Crib. The dresser is not part of a set though we purchased that seperately at a furniture store. The crib is $309.00 from BRU.

edited to add: our crib is a conversion crib that includes the kit and converts into a full size bed.

  • I didn't want a 'set' I just bought the crib and bru for $430 and the dresser at target for $250.

  • Why do you want a tall dresser and a small chest of drawers? What are you going to use to change the baby on? Will one of those pieces work? I don't mean to sound snarky, but don't buy something because you think it is a good price. Make sure you buy something that is functional.?

  • $1200 is a good, average price for a 3 piece set.

Ours was about $1600 for crib, conversion rails, 4-drawer dresser, changing tower & hutch (sales tax and shipping included).

  • We got Stanley Young America 4 Seasons built to grow crib and 7 drawer dresser with changing table top and full conversion kit for the crib (which takes it from crib to toddler bed to full size with rails to a normal full) for around 1600, including delivery and set up in our house.

All of the furniture we bought was higher end and stuff that we feel like will last our baby until he/she is out of the house. We could have gotten everything for closer to 1000 but we really wanted furniture that will last for the next 20 or so years.

  • With DD #1, her furniture set was about $1600 for 2 dressers and a crib.  This time, we are looking at close to $2000 bc we are buying just one extra wide dresser (which costs more than freaking 2 dressers) due to lack of space for multiple pieces of furniture in the room we are using, and the crib.  It sucks!!!!  But I buy nice furniture bc I plan to make them use it for a LONG time (think until they leave for college, lol).
  • We actually spent about $2000.00 on a high changer, rug, glider, ottoman, and lamp. My grandmother spend about $1200.00 on the crib and 5 drawer dresser. Ours was a bit on the pricier side, but we plan on using it for all our children.

Crib is not convertible. Sullivan will be getting a new bed set when he outgrows his crib. His baby furniture will go to the new baby.

we payed $18 for our crib and $150 for our changing table dresser combo ...good deal

  • We got an armoire, dresser, and crib for $700 on clearance at babies r us. I thought that was a good deal, considering the furniture was made from a good brand (babi italia).

  • Our furniture was:

    Convertible crib: $599

    Dresser; $699

    Hutch: $299

    Nightstand: $399

That's from the Munire Urban line.  For buying more than 3 pieces I think we got 15% off the total.

  • We payed a little over $2000 for a crib, two dressers, mattress, and rails to convert crib to full bed. So I don't consider $1200 crazy expensive.
