Baby Names

what do you think?

I love the name Delilah , but my husband thinks that people will associate it with the negative character in the bible.  What do you think?

Re: what do you think?

  • i think your dh is overestimating the number of people who care about biblical significance in names. i went to catholic grade & high school and when i hear the name delilah i still think first and foremost of the easy listening lady on the radio at night!

  • Hopefully my answer won't deter you from liking the name... Here it goes...

I LOVE the name Delilah, but... we named our Chihuahua that. If I thought it wasn't weird to name my LO after my dog, I would TOTALLY use the name Delilah. If anyone asks, just let them know it means delicate.

Besides, I don't think you'll get that as much as the Plain White T's song, "Hey There, Delilah." We get that a lot, but we just tell them no.

  • I think of a cheesy late night radio show host...sorry.

"Normal day, let me be aware of the treasured day you are. Let me learn from you, love you, bless you before you depart...let me hold you while I may."

  • Our friends boxer is also Delilah.
  • I know a girl named Delilah and I think it's a beautiful name/doesn't make me think biblical at all.

  • Delilah is a very pretty name.  I do think of the Biblical story, but I also think a lot of the female Bible characters are misunderstood because of the misogyny of the times, writing, etc.  :)  So I'd say go for it!

I am also a former Catholic school girl, and I wouldn't have thought of the Biblical reference.

  • I like it. I would never associate it the bible

  • I definitely think of the Bible, but that doesn't ruin the name for me. It's very cute!
  • Love the name, wouldn't associate it with the Bible. Even if I did, it wouldn't make me like it any less. I think it's a great name. GL!

  • Personally, yes, I do think of the biblical story and wouldn't use it for that reason. But I am obviously not in the majority.

This. Don't get me wrong, it sounds pretty-but the only connotations I have with it are negative. (besides The Bible, I really dislike the Delilah song PP mentioned, and that radio host.)

I wouldn't use this name, just like I wouldn't use the name Cain. It just sounds negative to me.

  • I absolutely think of the Bible story. I remember someone posted about Delilah maybe a month or two ago and most people said they thought of the Bible. I think it has way too much of a negative stigma. I wouldn't use it.?
