Mosquito bites

This morning DS woke up with 4 bad mosquito bites, with two of them on his face.  I've applied cortizone cream on it periodically, but I'm wondering if anyone else has any tips for getting it to stop itching?  He has been scratching them a lot.

 Thanks!

Re: Mosquito bites

  • My poor little guy is very allergic to them. His turn into big oozing blisters. I put Neosporin on them and then bandaids. I give him Benadryl liquid for the itching. Needless to say we try very hard to avoid them.

  • My DD's pedi and dermatologist (yup, she has one!) said never to put hydrocortizone on the face, esp of kids - it's a steroid and can cause serious problems including a very nasty rash that is quite difficult to get rid of. It makes the rash go away initially, but then it comes back with a vengeance. Just an FYI!

Benadryl makes some non-itchy gel. It's just menthol but it worked well on DD.

  • Methanol bug bite creams are what we use in our house.

  • DS has bad reactions to ant and mosquito bites.  His pedi recommended Cortaid (antihistamine and will help the swellng) and After-bite (anti-itching), can use both at the same time.  It helps a lot!!
  • We swipe white vinegar on ours.  Works instantly but doesn't last forever.
  • dd is very sensitive to them apparently... she had three that blew up huge.  benedryl did little to help, cortisone cream did nothing... the md suggested zyrtec and bam!  gone!  she is 30lb and was taking 5ml once a day.  also, calamine for the itching.  I've read baking soda paste (water and baking soda) helps... and my aunt suggested putting honey on it the asap after the bite.  swears it helps.
