Anyone had success on Menopur?

Hey ladies!  I was diagnosed with PCOS in May of this year.  My doc has tried me on Clomid with no O, Femara with no O, and now we are off to a Menopur w/Clomid combo next cycle.

Have any of you had experience with Menopur?  Any and all experiences are greatly appreciated.

Thanks a bunch!

Re: Anyone had success on Menopur?

  • I've only used Menopur as part of my IVF protocol, so I am not much help.

But, I just wanted to say good luck!

  • Menopur is 1/2 LH and 1/2 FSH.  PCOS'ers tend to have high baseline LH.  I would think an FSH-only med would be better suited to you.  If I were you, I would at least ask the doc about using Follistim instead.

  • Thanks so much for that!  Sometimes all of this can just get so discouraging.  It's hard to keep your head up and move forward, but I know there is help out there and a bigger picture.....I just want to see it sooner than later! Smile

Good luck to you as well!

Thanks for your response. I have done a lot of research on this since my doc gave me this protocol to start next cycle and  have read that Follistim is used more on women with PCOS.  I just wonder why he would prescribe me Menopur, especially since he's the one that diagnosed me with PCOS.

I will definitely have to call him Monday morning and ask him about it.

    Thanks again so much!

  • I have used menopur for all my cycles with the exception of two where we used clomid. I have low levels so I needed both the LH and FSH...follistim (FSH) alone did not work for me. I do not have PCOS(I have HA) but my ovaries are very PCO-like meaning I have a lot of residual follicles. As pp said, most women with PCOS have higher than normal LH so I would definitely  double check with your RE. on reasoning for wanting to use menopur.  Good luck with cycle. According to my RE menopur is the "drug of drugs"...I haven't had success yet but I think that was do to some other issues(borderline morph, poor lining, etc.). We're using  it again this cycle for IVF#1 and so far things look really good :)

Oh and as far as experience, it does burn a bit going in but I have found that keeping the meds at room temperature and injecting verrry slowly really helps take out the sting!

Best of luck to you this cycle :)

  • I have used menopur for about 4 cycles, plus my recent IVF cycle. I respond very well on it (I have ovulation issues, don't ovulate on my own) but on menopur I produce a decent amount of follies.

I don't have any real side effects except if you put the meds in the fridge (not necessary), leave it out or a little bit befor injecting b/c this does STING. I would recommend putting ice on before to numb the area. Otherwise its a piece of cake!

    GL!
