Re: Poll on bottle warmers

  • I had one and never used it once.  My DD would take a bottle at room temp and if I needed to heat ref formula, I would pop it in the microwave for a few seconds (carefully)

  • Here is my thoughts on this...  (I was a nanny and have heated PLEANTY of bottles in my life)

If you are going to EBF, then it isn't worth it... no bottles...

If you are a pumper, and your husband/Sitter/Nanny will be doing a lot of feeding, I say yes... It makes getting the right temp MUCH easier than testing it etc etc

If you are a formula person... I say it is 50/50... You can use warm tap water, or microwave it for 15-20 seconds and you are good... If you are using bottled or sterlized water, you can use the heater, but why wait 2 min when you can microwave it for 20 seconds?

I registered for one just in case... I am going to be working after the baby is born (8-12 weeks) and I want FI to be involved with the feedings... The warmer just makes it easier...

  • I plan on BF for the most part but will have to pump for DH and Babysitters to feed her when I go back to work... If I remember correctly when I babysat for BF moms they would have it in the fridge and I was told to run it under warm-hot water untill it was pretty warm... so thats what I was going to teach DH but was still wondering

  • You're never supposed to heat a bottle in the microwave.  It's pretty dangerous to do so as it heats unevenly.

If you want to heat it you can use a crock pot or simply run it under warm water.

Some babies don't even like their bottles warm.

  • I picked no.  In the past when I have fed my niece as a baby and when I used to work in daycare, most parents used room temperature water.

  • I've always been told a bottle in a microwave is a big no-no. When I used to make bottles I would heat up the water in the microwave, then put the bottle in the dish of water to get it warmed up. It was really easy. Or just running it under tap water does the trick, too.
  • The only reason I said 'yes' is because of the car bottle warmer....We registered for it but will get it ourselves if no one buys it (not a huge deal..pretty inexpensive)...At home it is just so easy to warm a bottle but on the go it just looks too convenient to pass up!
  • Definitely a waste of counter space. We got one for DS but never used it. We would just heat up bottles in warm water, either from the tap or kettle.

  • I got one brand new in the box at Goodwill for .50  the car kind and bought it not for bottles bit for cups with hot chocolate or apple cider for my 5 year old. It gets really cold in Iowa and thought she would like something warm to drink after she gets off the bus.

  • majority of ppl i know who did not breastfeed have never used a bottle warmer.  they'd use the sterilized water at room temp.
  • I am thinking of getting one. We have a two floor house and I am not sure I want to run up and down the stairs in the middle of the night. One I am looking at also has a cooler on it as well.
