Help! Squeaky Glider

I purchased a Dutailier Gilder off of craigslist about a month ago. When I tried it at the woman's house, it was perfect and didn't squeak. Now when I sit and rock in it a loud clicking noise comes from 2 of the spokes. We've tried WD-40 and knocking the wood into place but with no luck and don't want to risk damaging the chair by taking it apart. I'm am wondering if this will be a huge issue when I'm trying to get the babies to fall asleep and am debating on getting a new chair. Anyone else have this problem or have any ideas on a solution?

Thanks!

Re: Help! Squeaky Glider

  • We had a similar issue with a resale glider we bought.  It was fine at the lady's store, but I got it home and it started to favor one side and not the other and it was making a clicking sound as I rocked (the base wasn't attached to the top chair part correctly - the screws had become loose in their holes).  But before we discovered this I thought it might be that the slats on the side of the chair were catching on the base, so I bought some bigger sized felt pads and put those on the base of the chair where the slats were rubbing.  This seemed to help the issue.  So maybe that might be what your problem with your chair is.  If the top part of the chair seems to wobble then it might not be attached properly to the base and I would suggest using some wood glue and clamps - gluing the base back to the chair and letting it sit overnight... this did the trick for us and now the glider works great! HTH!
