Orbit Infant Stroller System...

I live in New York city, and I will like to know if the orbit stroller system is good for running around in the city. I haven't seen them around. I've seen Uppa and Buggaboo. It will really help if I can get some feedback on good city strollers.

Thanks!

Re: Orbit Infant Stroller System...

  • I live in a big city, I have the buggaboo and love it. I haven't seen the orbit around but I have heard it is good.

  • We love our Orbit!  I have zero complaints about the system.  While I do live in the 'burbs, one of my favorite things about it is that I can collapse the entire thing down and put it in the trunk of my car with one hand (while holding my dd in the other).  I definitely think this would be very helpful if you are in and out of taxis, etc.

  • I have a Bugaboo and love it.  But I've seen girls out and about with an Orbit and it is a pretty cool stroller.  I can't get past the price though, like the Bugaboo is much cheaper.  LOL

  • My friend has it.  She ended up buying a Bob and a Maclaren after 6 months.  We live in the city, but in Atlanta, so we still use cars a good bit.  I honestly can't figure out what it is really good for.  The infant seat is nice, but doesn't last all that long.

I have a mountain buggy urban single and I cannot say enough good stuff about it.  Super Super sturdy, mine has well over 2000 miles on it.  Basket big enough for shopping, a place for my water bottle.  The bassinet option is nice, especially if you don't use a car.  My 3 year old still loves it.  I liked it so much I bought the double too.  The single could easily be your only stroller.  (It is smaller than a bob stroller, so you can take it to smaller stores and doctors offices.)  I take it on the train.

I have a phil and teds and it sucks quality wise in comparison, though they look similar. I would never get the phil and ted for a single child.

  • I have the Orbit system, and DH and I absolute love it.  The first time i saw it was in NYC.  As far as I am concerned, it is great in the city.  It is very maneuverable.  I can push it with one hand.  The fact that I can spin it on a dime was quite a selling feature.

Also, it set up to be buckled into a car without it's base.  This is particularly good in taxis.

The base is small and folds with one hand.

    I love the built-in sun/rain shield.

The fact that it spins is a great feature as well.  It is easy to take it into restaurants, etc. and pull the stroller up to the table and spin it to face us.

The resale is phenomenal on craigslist, and we plan to sell ours when we are done with it.  Which, as a pp mentioned, sadly, will be sooner rather than later.  Our boy is 15 lbs , 26" at 10 weeks- so he will probably outgrow the stroller around 6 months... I will be very sad that day.

Oh, and there are panniers that attach to the side for shopping.

Really, it is a great system and extremely sturdy. I highly recommend!

  • i don't have it but watched a full demo that was given to my friend and i was VERY impressed with it! If i was buying a single stroller- i would have wanted it.

I'm a total stroller whore - i own 7, lol.   I think the Orbit would be great for the city... though some of the things I liked most about it had to do with the ease of snapping into the car with the infant seat, and older seat, etc.... which you wouldn't do often.

Phil & teds is great if you are having a 2nd - for the city- b/c it's a double with the footprint of a single. I have one and love it.

I have a Valco Trimode Twin + toddler seat now and LOVE that.... amazing stroller.  they make a great single that has a toddler seat attachment, too - and a bassinet feature.

I could not have said it better! We also have the panniers and they are wonderful. It is so easy to get around with. I was able to get the stroller and my 2 80 pounds dogs out and around without a problem. So easy to fold up, the swivel is great at restaurants and is so easy to get in and out of tight spaces. Plus, since it has actual rubber tires, it handles the bumpy city streets so much better.

    Worth every penny, IMO.
