WWYD?

Some friends rented a cabin for the weekend and ask us to come up.  They also ask another couple that wants to bring their dog.  The dog has a history of biting children and has bitten one toddler on the face.  My kids are 3 and 4 months.  They say they will keep the dog away from the kids, behind a baby gate or on a leash.  My 3 year old is terrified of dogs (for good reasons, so would not go near the dog, but might scream if he comes near her).  Would you go or just pass on the weekend?  It is a 4 bedroom house with 2 living areas and lot of porches, but there will be just 6 adults, so we will likely be in the same space much of the time.

Re: WWYD?

  • It just sounds like it wouldn't be a relaxing time --- I would be constantly worried about the dog the whole time.

I think I would pass --- as much as I would want to go.

  • Well I'm a dog/animal lover and I'm not afraid of most dogs (no matter the size) but I would not bring my kids with a dog that has a hx of biting children.  Why risk it?  Especially if you dc is afraid of dogs, kwim?

  • Does not sound like a good time to me. Are there other kids going?

  • I personally wouldn't go.  My kids are also very afraid of dogs so I try to avoid situations where dogs are present.  I hope your kids won't be the only ones invited if this dog has a history of biting, I'd be worried about other children as well.

  • I have two dogs myself.  I vacation to get away from them.  And if it's a dog that's bitten children, then NO WAY would I go.  I'd be hovering over the kids the whole time, and what kind of vacation is that?!
  • I think I would pass on that as well. I'd be so paranoid the whole time.

  • I would pass.  It just doesn't sound like a good idea, the dog can't stay behind the gate the whole time, you know they'll want to take it outside for walks, potty breaks..etc.  Plus why traumatize your child.
