Babies: 9 - 12 Months

A hard night beginning with a hard day

Yesterday Quinny had a concoction of formula (premixed) and BM that made her vomit several times. I came home and she freaked me out by being listless and almost completely exhausted to the point she refused my breast for a couple of hours. After calling in to the nurse and being told we shouldn't have made such a mix, we let her rest and when she woke she took the breast. Whew, right?

Wrong. Last night she began bawling every time she pooped. Her poop was brown/yellow with bright green specks. She must have pooped at least three times in the middle of the night. Tons of it. I'm thinking diarrhea. UGH. Poor baby!!! The thing is, we don't know if it's her system clearing out the teeny amount of formula she ate, or the night before's bananas (introduced for the first time). And so here I am staying home, because if she does more of it, I may be taking her to the pedi!

Anyone have the poop/diarrhea experience? Her poop's not watery, though, so I don't know if it is diarrhea. Soft, yes.

  • OH NO poor Quinny :(

No fun for either you.  I bet it's the combo - totally new experiences for her digestive tract overwhelmed her :(

  • Sorry you are having all these problems. I have no advice for you. My pedi did tell me that if DS was going to have an allergic reaction to a new food it would always be within 2 hours.
  • It probably is the fact that both formula and "real food" was introduced so close together. With my first DS he began purees at 4 mos, but he had been introduced to the mixture of bm and formula sooner.(I could barely pump enough to leave the house for an hour!!)He refused the bm and formula at first, it took about a 1-1.5 months of trying weekly for him to accept it.And bananas are pretty easy on the tummy, so be careful mixing, try a different type of formula maybe one for sensitive stomachs.
