What do I do with all this stuff???

I am starting to get overwhelmed. I have 1 child, she is 1 and already I feel swamped by all this stuff. We have so many toys, stuffed animals, and things that she has already grown out of, clothes etc....We are planning to have more children, so I'm holding on to all of it. But's it's practically taking over our house. Not to mention my stuff. I need to sell clothes!! I have so many clothes from my job b/f motherhood. And clothes from pre pregnancy that don't fit, maternity clothes and new clothes that I'm fitting into now. Do I keep everything, should I keep some of it.....how do I purge this mess?!!!

Re: What do I do with all this stuff???

  • for yourself - keep basic clothes that will last time and trends. sell or donate the rest. you could always use or two work-type outfits per season - you never know!

as for toys, store away what you want to keep. we plan to keep nearly everything. my dd is 2. it's also nice to take out baby toys for our baby friend visitors when they come over.

do you have a basement or somewhere to put it all?

  • we are planning on having more kids, but i still decided i wouldnt hold everything in the house.. i only kept the clothes that i loved the most and that were more gender neutral, we did keep the bouncer and all that stuff but we took everything apart and boxed it.. as far as clothes and other ramdom items i have i'm planning a garage sale to get rid of the unwanted/grown out of toys, clothes, things in general i see no point in keeping things i dont fit in anymore and that welcomes space for new stuff!! it feels really good to get rid of things you dont need!! if you dont wanna do a garage sale you can always donate the stuff to the salvation army or other charity...
  • I always find that it's best to go through things when you're ready (which you sound like you are) to let them go.

For the kids stuff.  Honestly, if your LO isn't really attached to stuff animals there's not a lot of need for them.  They just take up space.  For the bigger toys maybe you could look through them and see what ones you would be willing to maybe sell.  Do you have a few toys that are really similar and you could get by with just one of them?  For clothes, I buy diapers in the value box and use the boxes to pack up old clothes that I think I could use again.  I get rid of things that a second DC wouldn't be able to wear (really stained onsies/bibs/shirts).

For your clothing.  It's time to get real.  If you seriously think that you'll be able to wear something again keep it.  If not put it in a pile for a yard sale.

    Best of luck!
